I presume it's on @Teasing the Korean's radar. I always wondered why he ended up recording it. What is the story? I am sure that the gig paid well enough for Woods. I actually heard the oud player on that LP sitting in with the Dave Brubeck Quartet in Charlotte, NC. I have some photos taken from the side of the stage and a soundboard recording of the set, courtesy of Russell Gloyd, Dave's manager. Quote

The only reason I still have it is because I got Jones to sign it for me. Even he gave me the side eye when I handed it to him for his signature. Well thats your opinion. Will spin it again and will see what it makes with me. Have it for many years but must say Ididnt play it for the last 5. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted September 27, 2023 Report Posted September 27, 2023 I actually don't mind Phil Woods' "Greek Cooking". I don't like it enough to buy it, but I can listen to it and enjoy parts. But Hank Jones' harpsichord playing is just not for me at all. I'd much rather hear him on piano. Quote

That version of ‘Winchester Cathedral’ on the album would have the bones of the Anglo-Saxon Kings located up in the rafters of that institution shaking in their caskets ! HutchFan Posted September 27, 2023 Report Posted September 27, 2023 (edited) It's funny how harpsichords only had a short time in the limelight. However, during that brief time, they showed up all over the place. Particularly in movie soundtracks. If the movie happened to be made during the High Harpsichord period, it was nearly inevitable. There had to be a harpsichord just like there had to be a sleek roadster (preferably British or Italian) -- for that extra whiff of Euro sophistication. . . . I mean a piano is smart. And the electric piano is hip. But a harpsichord! Come on! It's no contest! 1 hour ago, JSngry said: GW could make ANY instrument sound good. I love that stuff. Seriously. I grew up listening to Wanda Landowska play harpsichord, she was pretty hip! Even Meade Lux Lewis played some boogie woogie on harpsichord, didn't he? Or maybe is was just celeste. Quote

Clunky Posted September 29, 2023 Report Posted September 29, 2023 Arne Domnerus 6tet (artist EP) nice 4 track EP from 1960 featuring Jan Allan, Rune Falk a.o. West coast vibe - not especially Scandi . Reminds me of “I want to live” . Quote

There are a few pieces on which he played celeste, this being among the better known (I think). There's also a piece on Blue Note 78: Quote
HutchFan Posted September 29, 2023 Report Posted September 29, 2023 Thanks for the links, @clifford_thornton. Now spinning this LP: The John Lewis Album for Nancy Harrow (Finesse, 1981) with Frank Wess (fl), Joe Kennedy (vn), Howard Collins (g), Marc Johnson (b), and Connie Kay (d) Quote

According to the notes on the back of the cover, the photographer's name is Robert McCabe. That name doesn't ring any bells for me. Quote
