king ubu Posted November 26, 2010 Report Posted November 26, 2010 Enjoying the Benny Goodman Capitol Small Group that I had in the mail today! Haven't started playing the music yet, but around a third is familiar from the Capitol Trios, In Hi-Fi and BG Story Reissues. Good to have it all now! Again, new set (no # in the booklet, the box a bit damaged, but got it for a good price so I won't complain!) Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 29, 2010 Report Posted November 29, 2010 Ellington Capitol, disc four. Now that I've listened to the whole set, I'll usually be skipping some of the lesser tracks. I still can't get over "Bunny Hop Mambo." Quote

king ubu Posted December 13, 2010 Report Posted December 13, 2010 YOWZAH! enjoying looking at the Hall/Johnson/De Paris/Dickenson Mosaic (CD-version) that just arrived! know much of the music already, but this does look nice, very nice! the page with the cd-tracklists is a loose sheet, slightly smaller, put inside the booklet - was that how they presented their early CD-versions, with the booklet being just for the LP-version and thus they had to add an additional page? That's exactly right about the slip-in page with the CD info; I have several of the early Mosaic CD editions. You already know that there's some fabulous music on that set. Quote

Yes, that's why I spent some $$ to get it (135$ to be exact... and it slipped through customs without trouble, luckily). I've got two early vinyls (Tina Brooks and Art Pepper), but then there's quite a gap... I think the next ones I have are in the 130s. From about the 150s/160s on I have most of what I wanted. But it's always a thrill when I get a chnce to grab another earlier one! Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted December 14, 2010 Report Posted December 14, 2010 Listening to the newly acquired Mobley set, it sounds wonderful!!! But I also just received the new Ellington big band box set. Kid in a candy store=me!!! Very good night of listening ahead! Quote

Dharmafor1 Posted December 21, 2010 Report Posted December 21, 2010 Chico Hamilton , starting with Satin Doll. Been listening to a lot of West Coast and it led me back to both Shelly and Chico. since I often put the Shelly Blackhawk sides on , I figured I'd zag this time instead of zigging, and I always forget how his chamber approach is such a nice departure from other dates of that time.
