sidewinder Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Indeed ! Those two CDs got multiple re-spins. Now on - Django Reinhardt CD1 What do you think of the Django set? This type of music I have very little of, and was wondering the enjoyment/replay quotient. I just have CDs 1 and 2 and it swings like crazy. No issues with the sound quality either. Must get the full set ! Quote
jazzbo Posted February 27, 2011 Report Posted February 27, 2011 The amazingly good third disc of the Threadgill. Quote

golfcrazy1984 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 #196 The Complete Capitol Recordings of Woody Herman. Got it for $80 and it's mint I am digging this, and am pleasantly surprised I am playing Mosaic catch up from when I was a poor college student. Slowly but surely I actually love the more commercial sides and the bands playing for the most part is superb! I guess he always had great bands. Quote
brownie Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Chu Berry 'Columbia and Victor Sessions', discs 3 and 4 Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted March 3, 2011 Report Posted March 3, 2011 Chu Berry 'Columbia and Victor Sessions', discs 3 and 4 I've been on the fence about this set for a while, thoughts? Do you come back to it often? Quote
colinmce Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 I don't own the Berry, but judging by your taste, you will definitely enjoy it. If I could only get 3 of the in-print sets that I don't have, this would certainly be one. Quote

I will be ordering the Chu Berry set in May along with the MJQ set so I can save on shipping. Really the only Chu Berry I have is the few sessions included with the Lionel Hampton set (which will become redundant once I get the Chu set...) but it will be interesting to compare the remastering of the sessions. Also, can't wait for the Lunceford!!! Quote
tranemonk Posted March 4, 2011 Report Posted March 4, 2011 Count Basie Live Roulette Recordings Disc 2.. Went through Discs 1, 3 and 4 in the car... No matter how much I hear Joe Williams I am so grateful I got to see him perform live... Quote
Big Al Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 Couple days ago: Curtis Fuller Blue Note & UA Yesterday: Hank Mobley Blue Note Today: Stanley Turrentine Blue Note Quintets & Sextets, the IN MEMORY OF SESSION right now. Neal Pomea Posted March 5, 2011 Report Posted March 5, 2011 I just got the Django Reinhardt this week and I am loving it! Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted March 8, 2011 Report Posted March 8, 2011 The Complete Roulette Live Recordings of Count Basie and His Orchestra. Disk 1 start to finish These recordings are timeless. I can't imagine what the Basie band was like in person, say 1959? It must have been a wall of sound and swing: from Marshal Royal's vibrato laden lead alto, to Snooky's piercing lead trumpet, not to mention the rhythm section and every MUSICIAN in between. They were the hippest, most swingin' band in the land. Later probably my newly acquired Onzy Matthews Select, ok so far...good in spots. Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted March 10, 2011 Report Posted March 10, 2011 Mosaic Complete Roulette Studio Sessions. The session called "The Legend." Great tunes that the Basie band hardly played on a regular basis, except "Easy Money." Marshal Royal was out sick on this date so Benny Carter played 2nd alto and Frank Wess played lead, and what a fine sound he got! Quote
sidewinder Posted March 12, 2011 Report Posted March 12, 2011 Mosaic Buddy Rich Verve, Emarcy, Argo Small Groups. CD1 - lots of familiar material here from various UK Verve LPs that I have but it's good to have it all compiled on CD. No complaints about the sound quality ! Quote

sidewinder Posted March 13, 2011 Report Posted March 13, 2011 Buddy Rich CD2. Fine, swinging set this one. Quote
golfcrazy1984 Posted March 16, 2011 Report Posted March 16, 2011 Listening to the Duke Ellington Small Groups Mosaic set. In specific, "Pyramid." Hodges ALWAYS sounds good. Lots of great playing, I am so glad Mosaic decided to do this project. The music is so deep. Really looking forward to the Lunceford and am hoping the sound will be comparable. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 20, 2011 Report Posted March 20, 2011 Buddy Rich Argo/Emarcy/Verve box - CD7. Unlike many of the other CDs in this box, the music on this CD is completely new to me (although I think it came out in a 70s Emarcy 2LP set). Nice Sunday listening ! Quote
