Oh boy - I'm hearing reports that the price has nearly doubled from our recent lows in the $3.40 range.

Doubled?

I was reading we could expect an average increase of 20 cents due to Hurricanes. We'll be lucky if that is the worst of it.

I noticed lots of long lines at gas stations today, people are anticipating price hikes and shortages due to Ike. I heard someone on the radio say this "panic" was mostly consumer-driven; prices may go up for awhile, but that there were no significant shortages anticipated.

Funny, oil price was almost 150 per barrel in mid august, now is around 100, but I can't see any difference at gasoline stations.

Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, and over here too.

My mother-in-law just said the same thing. I haven't been out today other than to ClampLand (aka, Harbor Freight) and gas was around $3.83. My mother-in-law said it's up to above $4 now. Seems fishy to me.

Was $3.69 when I went out to lunch with a friend at Noon. It was the same price at Sam's club at 4 pm, and there were long, long lines. Grabbed some stuff inside, came out...pumped were closed. Guess they ran out.

Then I saw $3.79 at the next station. It was packed, but it was also Friday afternoon. Then the next 3 stations were $3.99!!!!

Long lines at every gas station I passed by. A major pain in the ass when it happened to be at an intersection with cars blocking a lane or two. Prices had yet to go upward for the most part, though one guy was changing the sign as people waited, and another up the road was marked at $4.99.

I generally refuse to try to get gas under these conditions, even if I have to bite it later on.

Most be the Big Oil Bend-Ova fee that makes the difference.

Didn't notice any lines or price jump here in PDX yesterday. I've taken the Stude off daily driver duties but had it out and put $20 in at 3.5? = 5.5xx gal, right? Paid 3.49 when I filled the Mazda last week (dif station), lowest in a losng time.

The big panic here last Friday was apparently due in part to a leaked email from a local government employee that said there was "sure to be a major shortage". By Friday night pretty much every place was sold out, and here it is Thursday and STILL most places that sell gas are STILL OUT. So yes, there does seem to be a shortage, but it was caused by local people panicking and hoarding, not because of any hurricane issues. It's totally bizarre.

I had plenty of gas in the tank last Friday and thought it seemed unnecessary to wait in those looooong lines, but I also thought for sure things would be back to normal by now, almost a week later. This seemed to be a fairly local anomaly, not as much of an issue elsewhere in the state. There is some gas around, but people have had to search for it, sometimes driving way out of town.

Amazing how little it takes to throw things into total chaos! Lemmings over the cliff.

Man, this is an old thread. Check out the first page, both for the price of gas when we started the conversation, and for those who no longer post here.

$2.20 here as well, give or take. Fortunately I don't have to drive far to get to work. Close enough to bike it in, actually.

$2.20 would be nice!

Well, the good part of the economy tanking is gas prices are dropping like a rock. $3.29 is what I saw Saturday(we had been around $4.09 during the gas shortages in the ATL a few weeks back) and I know it's under $3.00 in some parts of the country....

But, $2.20 sounds better to me as well!
