WD45
Right Now! and New & Old Gospel. The second cut on New & Old Gospel nearly brings a tear to the eye. Such a happy melody, but so sad today with Jackie's departure...

gdogus
As I confessed in this thread, I have no Jackie McLean. Sad, but true...

Chuck Nessa
Now this. I've been concentrating on Herbie and he is very interesting - sometimes in sync with the music, sometimes impeding the flow but always trying something.
clifford_thornton
Most of my McLean is still in boxes. However, oddly Jackie's Bag (Liberty stereo) was mixed in with some stuff I brought up to Austin and was able to spin that one yesterday night. "Appointment in Ghana" is an amazing tune, and very forward-looking to his later '60s work. Considering the rest of the band (Miss Brooks, Kenny Drew, Blue Mitchell, A.T. and P.C.) and some of the contemporaneous gigs they were on, this is music that is light-years ahead. Yep--I was listening to JACKIE'S BAG earlier today and making a mental note to include "Appointment" in the Night Lights tribute I'm planning for this coming Saturday. WKCR just started their 42-hour memorial tribute to Jackie Mac about 45 minutes ago... already played a lot of marvelous music.
Chuck Nessa
Still listening to It's Time and got curious about a couple of things: This is McBee's 2nd BN gig (he was on a Moncur date a month earlier) and it was Roy's last BN gig. Just noted it is Tolliver's BN debut. Edited April 2, 2006 by Chuck Nessa
makpjazz57
Nobody played "A House is Not a Home" like Jackie McLean. I LOVE his rendition of this on Dynasty!! Thanks for the heads up regarding this recording. Maybe next paycheck... Marla

Jim Alfredson
I listened to "A Fickle Sonance", "Capuchin Swing", "Consequence" and "Jackie's Bag" on to and from the gig up at Boyne Mountain this weekend. Good stuff.
