gdogus Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I suppose I can live without the 'new' avatar, and all those counted posts since last year. But holy smokes, I've got 300 pages of New Posts to read! Me too (well, 295...) Quote
catesta Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I noticed some of the threads are missing the names of the topic starters and thought I was losing it. Dang, I just made it over 8000 posts not too long ago. Does this mean ContemporaryladySF has to re-register? Quote
David Ayers Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Jim Thanks for getting the board back up so quickly and sorry for your problems. Nightmare! Quote
catesta Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Crazy! The posts are still all there but not recorded. Quote
7/4 Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Oh shit, I'm back in Phoenix! the alt universe of the big O. Quote
Brad Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I lost about 800 posts, just as I was about to pass 4,000. If that's the worst of it, no big deal. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Does this mean ContemporaryladySF has to re-register? Quote
Quincy Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 This time when I pass Hank Aaron, I'm going to post 756 in the baseball thread! Sorry 'bout your headache Jim. I hate those oopsie-shi... moments, but the beast is up and running again. Thank ya! Quote
Guest Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I stopped existing today. Props for the recovery efforts, though. It's my B-Day tomorrow, so things are strangely apt. Quote
brownie Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Jim, must have been potent stuff at the dentist!! At the dentist ?? Quote
tjobbe Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Thanks Jim for bring up the board again so quickly....and yes, Dentists are BAD Cheers, Tjobbe Quote
Guest Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Jim, must have been potent stuff at the dentist!! At the dentist ?? And here I was more afraid of chimps. Quote
Daniel A Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Great to se that the forums are up again! Did that post recount really work, BTW? I find unlikely that that many posts have been deleted. Quote
Daniel A Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 At a closer look it still seems as if the post counts are those of last summer. If you want to find out the true count, use the search tool in your profile to find all your own posts, multiply the number of pages with 25, except for the very last page which you'll have to count manually. In my case that'll be 828 posts, as opposed to the displayed number, 542. Jsngry has lost 5000 posts... Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Glad the forum is back up, but if I were you, Jim, I'd be raising holy hell about them failing to do what was promised - and what I am sure they have been billing for. Now, to see what avatar I was using and how much I've lost ... Quote
Christiern Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Is this going to place outside of the political forum posts that will have Dan G. reaching for the smelling salt? Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Is this going to place outside of the political forum posts that will have Dan G. reaching for the smelling salt? If it does, I'll look at my new avatar and think happy thoughts. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I have no idea how many post counts I lost in the transactions. Couldnt' care less, really. I probably lost less proportionately to many others, as I used to post a lot more than I now do. I got my chess avatar back! I'll have to work on changing that again. And the sig. Too bad about the more recent board members....Felser? The spammy fellow who posts on offering/looking for? Quote
paul secor Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Thanks for getting things back so quickly, Jim. The short term disappearance of the Board made me realize how much I enjoy being here, and what things might be like if this place didn't exist. I'm sure that others feel the same way. Quote
Jim Dye Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 Hang in there Jim! We really appreciate what you do. I was in the process of changing my web host and domain name registrar because they have been so flakey, and I saw that a bunch of people were posing in the back room. Thankfully, I hadn't changed my nameservers. Glad to see we're back again. Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 28, 2006 Author Report Posted April 28, 2006 I'm still really pissed off about this. I just tried re-attaching a user who got deleted (felser) to his posts using some cross-reference points in the database, and it didn't seem to work. Not sure if there's anything else I can do... I'll keep researching. I apologize profusely for this... especially since the mistake was all my fault. Quote
JSngry Posted April 28, 2006 Report Posted April 28, 2006 I apologize profusely for this... especially since the mistake was all my fault. Perhaps "the mistake" was, but the inability to restore to a more current backup isn't yours at all. I would, however, consider switching dentists.... Quote
