Chuck Nessa Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 Threadgill box of his Black Saint stuff. Henry is a wonderful musician and has created his own musical world. I know this has been said before but DAMN! Quote
jazzbo Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 I have been listening to an album a day from that set the last five days. Great music. Wonderful sounding cds too! Quote
jeffcrom Posted August 11, 2010 Report Posted August 11, 2010 Late last night I got the urge to hear the "Lonely Fire/Guinnevere" session from the Complete Bitches Brew box set, since I haven't heard those tracks for quite a while. It'll be another five years before I make that mistake again. To fair, there is about six good minutes of music among the 42 minutes that were recorded. Right now: The Complete Charlie Parker on Dial (Stash) Disc one. That's more like it. Quote

Yes, I really prefer the Dial stuff to the Savoy recordings, I listened to the 4 discs of the Savoy's recently, including the alternate takes, and felt it was just screaming "THIS IS BEBOP" a little too much for my tastes, the Dials are a bit more groovy IMHO. CSB046 Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 Shelly Manne's Complete Live at the Black Hawk I'll probably lose my jazz lover's card for this, but I had never even heard of this material until a week or so ago. Once I learned about it and read all of the glowing reviews, I knew I had to order it immediately. And it is indeed great stuff! Quote

Hee hee, I just bought it in April after reading how it was on so many folks' desert island lists, and indeed it qualifies. Since I only discovered my jazz affection relatively recently (2006), I suppose I too can be forgiven. Quote
tranemonk Posted September 1, 2010 Report Posted September 1, 2010 I had a few individual discs and realized quickly that all the CDs are quickly becoming OOP... So I caved and bought the set... EXCELLENT!!!
