GA Russell Posted September 23, 2024 Report Posted September 23, 2024 Not jazz. Disc One. In 1964 the English radio show Top of the Pops was syndicated in the US, and I remember hearing Unit 4+2. They explained that they had been a vocal quartet, and added bass and drums to get gigs where the beat groups played. I enjoy this music, but it is nothing like Concrete and Clay. It reminds me of The Brothers Four. Quote

GA Russell Posted October 8, 2024 Report Posted October 8, 2024 Not jazz. Disc 1 I picked this up in 2013 solely on the recommendation of JSngry. Today I opened it up. I like it, as a guilty pleasure. Recommended to fans of Buddy Greco. Quote

Bluesnik Posted October 13, 2024 Report Posted October 13, 2024 CD3. The session I'm with is now 69 years old. Next year 70. It's one of my most treasured Mosaics. Quote

The material is not identical (more in the Columbia set) and the sound imo is better in the Columbia set. Quote

No, the Mosaic Set fom 1992 has a mastering by Malcolm Addey whereas the 2011 Columbia Box was mastered by Mark Wilder .... Quote

I wouldn't have expected the sound of a Malcolm Addey mastered set to be bettered by a Mark Wilder mastered set. Also didn't realize that the Columbia set contained more music. Appreciate the info! jazzbo Posted October 14, 2024 Report Posted October 14, 2024 "Bettered" may be personal taste and system dependent. To me the Wilder set sounds better on my system. . . I think that ADC equipment may have improved in the time in between. The Columbia set contains the live album and a second live disc of previously unreleased material from the live album: The Complete Woody Shaw Columbia Albums Collection (6 CDs): 1. Rosewood (1977) 2. Stepping Stones (1978) 3. Stepping Stones Bonus Tracks 4. Woody III (1979) 5. For Sure! (1979) 6. United (1981) The Mosaic set contains: Columbia JC 35309 - Woody Shaw - Rosewood. * Columbia JC 35977 - Woody Shaw - Woody Three. * Columbia FC 36383 - Woody Shaw - For Sure!. * Columbia FC 37390 - Woody Shaw - United.
