CSB046 Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 I would like to put in a good word for CSB046 who PM'ed me a few days ago and recommended I buy the Brookmeyer from JazzLoft.com. I immediately placed an order and tonight I received a shipping notice with tracking number, so it appears this is a merchant that only offers products they have in stock. I will update this board once the package arrives to quell those fears of another King Ubu moment. Thanks for the good word, and glad to hear you got a shipment notice! I can confirm that I received my Brookmeyer set from Jazz Loft yesterday. I believe I got the shipment e-mail on Friday, which means it was reasonably fast shipping for media mail. I'm probably going to regret not trying to get a Dexter Gordon set from someplace, but I was fortunate enough to acquire all of the OOP sets I really wanted (Bud Shank, Bob Brookmeyer, John Patton, Carmell Jones). Need to give my wallet a little time to recover! (And I still have my eye on grabbing a Bennie Green set sometime before they disappear.) Quote
Ron S Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) I know this has been hashed out before but I don't know if there is a definitive answer on whether the Selects (or the big boxes for that matter) are distributed in numerical order or not. My Brookmeyer set is #4027 so if they are issued in numerical order, this one was getting up there and probably would have sold out in the fairly near future on its own. Mosaic cofirmed a few years ago that the Selects are NOT distributed in numerical order (in fact, the newer Selects aren't even numbered, and the older ones were mechanically numbered during manufacture). The individually numbered big boxes, however, ARE generally sold in numerical order (they are assigned the next sequential number by computer--and that number is hand-written in the booklet--at the time of sale). From the looks of it JazzLoft still has copies of the Brookmeyer, Dexter Gordon, and John Patton Selects for sale. Good luck. Jazz Loft is good, but not perfect either. They had a Pullen Select listed in stock shortly after this thread started. I placed an order for it, got a order in process notice and received the OOS e-mail two days later. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 (edited) Sadly, my order with JazzLoft has been voided as OOS - although they emailed fairly promptly to clarify. Not one to hold your breath on. Wish they would update their website ! Edited September 24, 2009 by sidewinder Quote

Alan at the Jazzloft called me because he had gotten like 12 orders in a day for the Pullen and only had one in stock. He was unaware of what had gone down at Mosaic and apparently does all the updating of his website manually. Quote
colinmce Posted September 23, 2009 Report Posted September 23, 2009 My Brookmeyer is #5059/5000 Any idea what that's about? Quote

Chuck Nessa Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Over run at the pressing plant. Do you expect them to destroy them? Quote
Matthew Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 For those of you in Los Angeles, I saw some of the OOP selects in the jazz section at Amoeba going for $51.99. Worth a call if you're desperate. 323-245-6400 Quote

papsrus Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Over run at the pressing plant. Do you expect them to destroy them? Nope, just putting that out there. Well, it's a minor quibble, but unless I'm missing the whole point of these numbers, I would expect 5,000 pressings available for sale to mean just that. I'm all for Mosaic issuing as many sets as they can sell while they have access to the material, but the fact that they themselves use these numbers somewhat prominently in their promotional material indicates that Mosaic thinks the numbers are of some importance. Alec Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Damn! My order for the Freddie Slack and Johnny Richards was just canceled at J&R I have a lead on the Richards, but none on the Slack. Somebody needs to cut me some slack!! Quote
king ubu Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 My Dexter set arrived yesterday... still want the Pacific and Shank/Cooper, no idea if the final round of orders will come through, but I certainly do hope so! Quote
mikeweil Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Amazon today e-mailed that the seller of the Brookmeyer (a Munich bookshop) had not confirmed shipment within the timespan pre-set for charging my credit card. You know what that means. I e-mailed the seller, anyway. Since my funds for CDs are totally used up, I will stop hunting for now. Time will tell if used copies come within reach ... Quote
ASNL77 Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 My 'Australian' Freddie Slack arrived yesterday. Just listened to CD3. Nice stuff! Quote
king ubu Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 My Pullen and Richards arrived today, but both cost me a lot of taxes as the prizes were so high (both over 50 €) - that sucks, but at least I got them. The annoying thing however is, I got the Pullen, Dexter and Richards, but not the Shank/Coop and Pacific Trios. Of course it was the later two I really, really wanted to get! Quote

Do you also have to pay tax on goods from the European Union? If so, you'll have a hard time finding stuff for attractive prices outside your country... Yes. I haven't figured out how exactly things work, but big vendors such as amazon deduct the (French/German) VAT and if an order has a value of more than 50 CHF, the Swiss VAT gets added (7%), plus (that's the main part), the post demands a pricey fee (18 CHF currently, sometimes it seems to be only 12, I don't quite see a system in it). Anyway, with both French and German Amazon offering free shipping on orders over 20€, I can get good prices now and then (while good price inside my little country are only possible in special sales... there, I can get discs for about the prices that CDUniverse or Amazon USA usually offers...) My 'Australian' Freddie Slack arrived yesterday. Just listened to CD3. Nice stuff! Of all the black-hole Selects, that's probably the one I'm least put out about (although I'll probably regret that statement). Same here... didn't even try to find that one. But hey, as long as we don't know that was a mistake, let's just not bother about it! Quote
sidewinder Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 Yes, in the big scheme of my current frustrations, Pacific Jazz Trios is a '10', Dex is a '9' (there's a vinyl fall-back for some of the set) and Freddie S. is a '1' Quote
king ubu Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 With me, I guess the Pac was a 9, the Shank/Coop musically a 7 or so (but I wanted it as badly as 9 - I love the Shank Pacific Mosaic and wanted to get the Select ever since it came out...), the Richards may have been a 5, the Pullen and Dexter a 7 or so... anyway... my card was just charged for another Shank/Coop order, so there's hope again (but this whole thing is probably EMI's way of teaching us modesty... hope is there to fade away slowly, ain't it so?) Tom 1960 Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 (edited) The latest from Movie Mars concerning the Pacific Jazz Trios: "We are still working diligently to fulfill the item listed below, and you will be notified as soon as it has shipped". At this point seeing no other viable options, I might as well hang in there until they officially cancel my order. Edited September 25, 2009 by Tom 1960 Quote
