jazzbo Posted September 1, 2012 Report Posted September 1, 2012 I've no affiliation with this seller or sale, but it seems a bargain for this Mosaic set. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOSAIC-WOODY-SHAW-BRAND-NEW-SEALED-COMPLETE-CBS-STUDIO-RECORDINGS-OOP-LTD-4374-/130758788243?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item1e71d4c493 Quote
mandrill Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) I've no affiliation with this seller or sale, but it seems a bargain for this Mosaic set. http://www.ebay.com/itm/MOSAIC-WOODY-SHAW-BRAND-NEW-SEALED-COMPLETE-CBS-STUDIO-RECORDINGS-OOP-LTD-4374-/130758788243?pt=Music_CDs&hash=item1e71d4c493 This is why it's a "bargain". The Complete Woody Shaw Columbia Albums Collection Have all the albums on LP, but that's a terrific buy. Edited September 3, 2012 by Mandrill Quote
jazzbo Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 (edited) Well, there continue to be higher priced Mosaic Shaw sets for sale on ebay and elsewhere, which made this one a "bargain" price. I think it's priced nicely and the others are off base. I know all about the Pop Market set, I have it AND the Mosaic. There are reasons to have a Mosaic despite the new set, especially if you're a fan of the Mosaic "method." Edited September 3, 2012 by jazzbo Quote
Fer Urbina Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 The 30-CD set "Complete Charlie Parker Records" is going for £29.99 at Amazon UK (free shipping in the UK). Around €35 in Amazon FR and DE. F Quote

B. Goren. Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 beware of Membran ... (though it seems some of their classical release are rather okay, soundwise) Membran CDs are certainly not the worst ... Quote
mikelz777 Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 I've been very happy with my Membran releases. Listening to them, I can't think of a time I was left wanting and I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one of their releases if the right one came along. Quote
king ubu Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 Their Bechet wallet box is MP3 sourced and the Quadromanias are generally crappy (also as far as documentation/session info is concerned). Quote
felser Posted September 6, 2012 Report Posted September 6, 2012 Their Bechet wallet box is MP3 sourced and the Quadromanias are generally crappy (also as far as documentation/session info is concerned). The Membran Quadromanias leave me with that same cheap, slimy feeling the Real Gone "3/6/8 Classic Albums" sets do, but even worse, as the programming and selection feel quite random, with no original release info included. The sound quality hasn't really bothered me on them, but everything else about them does. Quote
Bigshot Posted September 7, 2012 Report Posted September 7, 2012 Membran's classical box sets are spectacular bargains. I've found that the trick is to rip the sets to true mono. They appear to be transferred in stereo with different noise on each channel. Once you sum them out to mono all that noise gets cancelled out and they sound great. Quote

romualdo Posted September 21, 2012 Report Posted September 21, 2012 Just found an excellent UK online site - primarily classical but with a good jazz selection http://www.mdt.co.uk/listings/clearance-sale/jazz-clearance-sale.html they have a decent clearance category (not just the usual clearance crapola) easy to navigate about the site - well constructed IMHO picked up the Enrico Rava Cam Jazz Set for £9.92 (VAT removed) - none of the other CAM Jazz sets appear to be reduced though They have the Jazz House CDs (live at Ronnie Scott's) at half price - picked up Montgomery, Golson, Tracy, Freeman-Blythe double anybody else used these people? shipping costs are very reasonable (just over £1 per CD to Australia) Quote

Hundreds of transactions with very few/no problems. I have been and am happy to keep using them. It was easier/faster for me to navigate before their recent upgrade to bells & whistles but still good enough. Quote
GA Russell Posted September 21, 2012 Author Report Posted September 21, 2012 Thanks for that tip, romualdo! I was unfamiliar with them. I too ordered the Rava box. Great price! Unfortunately, they gave me no option to choose a shipping method less expensive than airmail, so that cost me an extra pound or so, but no complaints. Quote
