You guys are nuts! The rust box was the worst package EVER created, and the accompanying booklet was incredibly difficult to read. Music, of course, was wonderful. That was one of the first ones I ever bought that I repackaged into jewel boxes.

Now that there's even a cheaper version of Clifford Brown's complete EmArcy recordings, originally released by PolyGram/Japan, wouldn't it be nice if they did the Roland Kirk and the Keynote boxes... :w

Apparently, the Clifford Brown (going for €27.56 in Amazon.it, 24.72 quid in Amazon.co.uk) is a verbatim replica of the Japanese PolyGram set (click for image).

Is there an "official" list of these reissues by Universal Italy?

PS A low price Dinah Washington would be quite something..

Don't think so ... the universalmusic.it site is messy ... but after all the discussion about these sets, we really should start a dedicated thread and try and put together a list in the opening post!

Helen Merrill, too. I sort of gave up on that one.

No, don't give on that one...keep it on your "must have" list!

Wonderful set! Got lucky a few years back, finding the vinyl box for 30 something euros (a gamble, as it was an online order - but all was good).

Wow!! - have been waiting for something like this - Went for it!!

I still remember seeing one of the original "Metal" copies here in Brisbane in the late 90's - you could see rust already forming through the plastic wrapping (reminded me of PIL's "Metal Box" -> my copy is quite rusty now after almost 35 years)

Anyway, it was way too expensive for me at the time though I would have loved to get the music, so now that's possible & at a very affordable price

Once VAT was removed the cost came down to Euros 34.35 (plus E14 shipping)

I chime in here every 12 months or so ...

I had the mouse pointer hover over the "buy me now" Complete Evans boxed set several times now.
What stopped me is this (without wanting to ruin it for anyone, especially completists who don't give a hoot): The mastering is quite bad, IMHO.
I know there are people on here who like to twiddle knobs to make the stuff sound better, but the Suhar Guhr (spelling?) and similar remasters (think Verve Master Edition and, partially, Verve Elite) ... suck in comparison to earlier editions.

It pisses me off every single time I put those editions on ... harsh, brittle, trebbly, etc.
Bill Evans and a ton of others deserve better.

AND ... NO ... I'm not the audiophile geek (anymore) and I'm not a Hoffmanite (a**hole).
It's just that those Verve remasters really do suck the life and ambiance out of the music.

*sorry*
