Norah Jones is such a great piano player, and an even greater daughter. She might be the greatest daughter ever! It would be great if Ravi Shankar gave us more great daughters. In fact, he did give us another great daughter. Anoushka. Say it with me. A-noush-ka. Anoushka is actually the greatest daughter ever, making Norah great, but ultimately penultimate.

Stop it you're hurting me!!! :g:g:g

As long as Ravi keeps producing daughters. We must support his efforts and buy their recordings. In fact, I'm hoping that he produces enough daughters to start their own label and shit-can Blue Note!! ;)

Anoushka is related to Ravi Shankar??

Does that mean that Norah suffers from a sense of inadequacy that she attempts to resolve by being a total freak in the sack? If so, how can I go about aiding this poor woman in her quest for wholeness?

I think our dear friend music boy has some comments that might be applicable to your post in this thread, Jim.

by the way:

Anoushka, Norah patch up with tattoo sisterhood

H S Rao (Press Trust of India)

London, May 10: As a mark of their cherished friendship forged after burying the differences of the past, the daughters of Indian sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar have decided to sport identical star tattoos on their back.

The sisters, Anoushka Shankar and Norah Jones, who for most part of their lives did not see each other, are now trying to know each other more. "It has been wonderful getting to know Norah. I finally have a sister I have always wanted. She came to us when I was 16 and by the first year we were already close," London-born Anoushka who was nominated for Grammy awards this year said.

Norah Jones, the celebrity daughter of Shankar and a recepient of eight Grammies had a tense meeting with her half-sister Anoushka five years ago after which their relationship showed signs of improvement.

Shankar, who was granted an honorary knighthood by the queen last year, said "they have so much in common it is mind-boggling... In their looks, their behaviour, in the way they are so quick-witted."

"She is an adoring sister to Anoushka. The tattoos reflect a cherished friendship forged after putting aside the differences of their childhoods which has been overtaken by the similarities of the present," Shankar, who is to embark on a British tour with daughter Anoushka, said.

The father and daughter duo would be sharing the stage at Barbican Centre on May 18. While Jones gave an exhilarating performance in New York on Friday night performing hit numbers from her debut album "Come Away With Me".

Norah was raised in Texas by her mother Sue Jones, after Shankar married Sukanya, Anoushka's mother.

For Jones her father popularly known as "godfather of world music" was an elusive figure who disappeared when she was nine only to resurface when she was 18. "Everything has changed now. For the past five years we have reconciled and have been very close," Jones said adding, "I am proud of Anoushka and she is proud of me and we get along very well."

Meanwhile, Anoushka in an interview to London's Evening Standard said, "It has been wonderful getting to Norah. I was in the middle of a lesson with my father when she rang. It was a voice of a soft-spoken girl on the other end of the phone who wanted to speak to Ravi Shankar.

"When she said who she was I was stunned because by then I had totally given up on the idea that we would have any contact with her," Anoushka said.

"She and I have a beautiful relationship. She is incredible. She really has one of the best voices out there. It's wonderful to see someone like her with that kind of substance and integrity getting success," Anoushka said.

Sir — Norah Jones is entirely justified in saying that her relationship with her father, Ravi Shankar, is a personal matter. Given their celebrity status, it has probably occurred to her that she cannot avoid the public glare. What she can do is to ensure that the filmmaker, Dev Anand, does not turn the real-life drama into a typical song-and-dance Hindi film.

Yours faithfully,

Although I can't understand this one, it sure looks interesting:

This is the best CD I've never heard!

Reviewer: Helen K. from New York, NY

When an artist is as wonderful as Norah Jones, who needs to actually HEAR her album in order to review it? In a way, I wish I could go back in time and NOT hear "Come Away with Me," just so I could have the pleasure of talking about how great it is without hearing it. In fact, I might NEVER listen to the new album. That way I will preserve my preconceived notion of how great it is in all its virgin purity! I should start wearing earmuffs all the time! Then I'll never hear anything, but I'll assume that it's all GREAT! Wouldn't that be just AWESOME?! Hearing things is overrated anyway...

Steering the topic back.

Hello all. I've been more of a lurker on Organissimo this past year due to work, unlike when I started on BN. But I saw a recent post here by Rooster Ties in the musican's forum where he dug up an old BN thread. RT had the source code which led back to the BN site (how did you get this RT?). It seems that most or possibly ALL of the old BNBB (to late 2001) threads are still online. Not sure why there were not taken down.

While I may not revisit them, here's a simple way to try it for those who have the time or need.

Caveat: there's no real navigation, just "guesswork".

Click any of the URLs below and change the numbered part - up or down - to access the threads. I randomly chose post 101 or something close.

it's the "old" board. Still I believe aome of the more recent threads (after the "new look" was installed) can be found there too. Maybe not all, but I remember someone on the BNBB linking to an "old board" version of the very thread he posted the link in. So there must be some overlap. Anyone found out yet untill when this "archive" is stil up?
