Rabshakeh Posted July 24, 2021 Report Posted July 24, 2021 Taking a break from an afternoon's increasingly frantic googling of 1950s Western European jazz men to listen to this favourite: Andrew Cyrille's X Man (Soul Note, 1944) with James Newton and especially Anthony Cox in very fine form. Quote

I bought it right away, jammed it really good, and then put it up for the next time. He's been interested in expanding his music to larger ensembles in the last decade and I have aided him in this effort. Go Mr Mitchell! In ten days he will be an amazing 81. Thank god he is in a position to do many things. Quote
JSngry Posted July 25, 2021 Author Report Posted July 25, 2021 The cover art kinda bothers me, it's just too damn literal. T But the music more than makes up for it. Quote

It has a unique language, which is surprisingly rare when writing for this scale. Mr. Mitchell is probably my favourite artist and it's amazing to see how he is continuing to grow at every stage of his career. Quote
