Dub Modal Posted October 14, 2021 Report Posted October 14, 2021 (edited) Love Manne's spoken interlude after this volume's Black Hawk Blues. He says they're a West Coast band and it's very important to them that everyone considers them that way. He then introduces everyone and names where they're from: New York, Boston, England, Philly and Nebraska And now: Edited October 14, 2021 by Dub Modal Quote

Fabulous album, but for the CD edition, some of the fade endings had to be cut. Fantasy should have issued it as a two CD set. MG Quote

Not on the back liner of this CD. Quote

Rabshakeh Posted October 14, 2021 Report Posted October 14, 2021 Steve Beresford, Toshinori Kondo, Dave Toop and Tristan Honsiger - Imitation of Life (Y, 1981) My favourite of the second free improv gen's records. It's amazing how similar it is to other groups with no lineal connection to this music, whether the Holy Modal Rounders, Sebadoh or the Residents. It's a total desecration. Quote
Dub Modal Posted October 14, 2021 Report Posted October 14, 2021 Wow, this album smokes! Frank Foster, Pepper Adams, Jan Hammer, Gene Perla, Cornell Dupree, Warren Smith, Steve Grossman, Candido and Pablo on percussion, and Omar Clay. They fade out the track Currents/Pollen unfortunately but that's the only negative I have about this one. Quote

Looks very good. This is different than the Peacock Lane date, right? (which I believe was recorded in 1957). Quote
Gheorghe Posted October 15, 2021 Report Posted October 15, 2021 I love it. It was one of the favourite of us during those times in the 70´s. It still sounds so fantastic, I never get tired of it. And really a dream team, Freddie, Joe Henderson, Herbie, Ron, Lenny White. Quote

Ah, timing is everything. Earlier Conjunto Matamoros with Beny More - RCA Victor (Tumbao) 1946 Now Osdalgia Lemnes - Contigo live - Mimisma Productions One of the great voices of this century, I'm sure. Next Nemours Jean-Baptiste - Musical tour of Haiti - Ansonia 1960 MG Quote
