John Tapscott Posted January 19, 2023 Report Posted January 19, 2023 A powerful Canadian quartet (originally a trio) that I have overlooked until now. Quote
jazzbo Posted January 19, 2023 Report Posted January 19, 2023 Right now Count Basie “The Golden Years” disc 3, studio big band sides. I bought this set many years ago and since then have about 75% of the source material of this compilation in complete original releases. My esteem for late Basie grows all the time. There was nothing else quite like this band when he was at the piano chair. A whole “philosophy” of swing on the bandstand. This is really a well compiled and mastered collection. Quote

jazzbo Posted January 20, 2023 Report Posted January 20, 2023 (edited) Half of this one last night and the second half this morning. My listening companion Fiona the miniature dachshund does NOT like this one; the everywhere, all at once drumming from the two drummers and the freaky deaky guitar bits just don’t let her relax. But I like it. Joe Lovano/UsFive “Cross Culture” Blue Note cd 503×503 63.6 KB Nicole Herzog Septet featuring Adrian Mears “Time will Tell” Fiona likes this one a lot more. jazzbo Posted January 20, 2023 Report Posted January 20, 2023 Charles Mingus “Tijuana Moods” Classic Records gold cd 960×960 170 KB My favorite sounding version of this awesome album. This one and “East Coasting” battle in my mind as the favorite Mingus album. Quote

Justin V Posted January 20, 2023 Report Posted January 20, 2023 I bought this years ago when it was on last chance. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted January 20, 2023 Report Posted January 20, 2023 (edited) Bobby Hutcherson - Conception: The Gift Of Love (Columbia). This comes across as an early attempt at smooth jazz. Not really my favorite Hutcherson but not Kenny G-level terrible either. Until a post a few days ago, I forgot about this 2 CD set that I bought several years ago. I'll probably go back to forgetting about it again. Edited January 20, 2023 by bresna Quote
