jazzbo Posted October 1, 2023 Report Posted October 1, 2023 One of my sentimental favorites, this copy my newest, a Mono. I cleaned some records today that I haven’t cleaned since I bought them and this one really shines now in several ways. I just love the mood and pacing and sequencing and song slections here and Jack had such grace and gravitas late in his career. Jack Teagarden “Mis’ry and the Blues” Verve mono LP Quote

jazzbo Posted October 2, 2023 Report Posted October 2, 2023 Dusted this one off, was hiding in the shelves and I remember really liking it. David Bowie “All Saints: Collected Instrumentals 1977–1999,” It’s clearly Bowie music even though the identifying vocals are absent. Nice way to start the day. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 2, 2023 Report Posted October 2, 2023 Oscar Peterson “Plays Duke Ellington” Pablo cd A compilation of Oscar playing Duke compositions from Pablo sessions. Really showcases Oscar’s immense talent. Quote

Now: One the very best of the Maybeck series IMHO. I took the CD to a live Bill Mays concert some years ago and asked him to sign it. He did and when I told him how much I liked it, he was rather dismissive of the whole thing. Quote

She tends to sit in the background a bit with her recordings with Feldman. Currently listening to this one: A first ever listen for me, from my recent run over the historic jazz charts. I don't think I'd ever heard the name, even though it clearly shifted the old SKUs. It isn't exactly John Coltrane. Still, it's fun to think of all the ex-neoboppers piously indulging in their supposedly heretical fusions of hip hop and jazz, seeking to "update" jazz, when meanwhile something as broad and populist as this was squatting on the jazz and R&B charts.
