I've no idea why it's not more widely suggested as a first stop for NY era Sun Ra. I like the extra space for the solos.

I agree. I didn't know anything about it but apple music has a decent write-up summary on it (these aren't included with all albums on this platform, so it's nice when one's available).

NP. This one escaped me but am listening now after seeing it upthread.

I saw Blakey live on many occasions. I think the last one was shortly after this record was made. I think in spring 1989, in any case Javon Jackson was on tenor and Benny Green on piano. I was sittin in the first row and could enjoy Blakey´s fantastic drum sound, I like to hear them cymbals and snares very clearly.

But on the album it seems they had put the drum on a very low level because I can´t hear THE powerful Blakey sound. Is this due to the way they underrecorded his drums ?

Listening to some of the few LPs I have left in my music collection. Really glad I kept this one.  Wonderful recording. :tup

Would like to have more Harold Land recordings. Great artist.

Are these previously 'unissued" recordings or is it only another compilation?

Thanks
