btw, I don't think their problems are being caused by the Gazette.

of course it's not a cause for the problems, it's just a strong indicator that they misperceive the problems... for instance: if you have a high quality product to sell (which they do) you don't advertise that one to me with a freebie that I could recreate in higher quality in 25 minutes max.  I don't hate anyone and I actually like Mosaic quite a bit... I'm just trying to help, knowing that if I post something valuable here it will find its way... and if not, then I probably didn't.

I had a very good experience with Mosaic customer service. I recently bought a Mosaic set. When it was delivered one corner of the box was crushed- probably due to USPS poor handling. Fortunately the CDs were OK. I called Mosaic (actually talked to a human) and told them of the problem. I received a replacement box within a week. Hats off to them!

Better packaging probably would have prevented such damage in the first place. They are always very friendly and generous in solving such issues, but that's beside the point. Quality control and prevention is what's lacking.

@Stonewall (and others in a similar situation): Of course that's good follow-up and quite commendable;). But wouldn't it be better still if they used bullet-proof packaging in the first place to avoid all this to and fro and replacement mailing etc. to EVERY extent possible? If you figure in this extra outly this means to THEM then this cannot possibly improve their bottom line either. AGAIN this seems to boil down IMO to straightening out the shipping department.

My Benedetti box had a few minor crinkles in it, but not enough to compel me to ask for a replacement. I can also confirm that it was packaged quite well. Which leads me to believe the damage was done prior to the actual shipping.

As of today, 10 of the 26 sets Mosaic has on its website are either running low or last chance.  A few are currently on back order.  Several have said it above or in other threads, but this has all the looks of a going out of business sale.  I'll be curious to see how soon many of the sets that were recently back ordered and recently repressed   (e.g. Mingus, JPJ, Savoy) - hit the last chance list.

Just got the notice that the JPJ and Mingus sets are coming my way and am glad that they - along with the Savoy, were repressed.  Not much action on the coming attractions front.  I know of the Edwards set, but don't know the status.  I'd be happy if they went to a subscription thing or a reduced output/packaging change/whatever if there is still interest on their part.  If not, it's been a great run...

I wonder if Jazz Messengers will get the JPJ box set in stock again.

They told me they will (and also the Clifford Jordan), but they will be closed for a summer break until late August (it's very hot in Spain).

If they were going out of business, they wouldn't be planning a Teddy Wilson set for early next year. Which Edwards are you referring to?

Which Edwards? Seriously?

Yes, seriously; I'm not an American and I have no idea whose photo that is. Maybe I missed something, but I also have no idea which Edwards Mosaic set Ed Swinnich was referring to.

Douglas Edwards: a "vintage" CBS news reporter. ;)

Thanks. Apparently someone thinks it's funny to make a fool out of me, but seeing who it was, I don't care.

I guess I'm on ignore for previous misdeeds (which is fine with me)... but be that as it may: I think jsngry just wanted to underline/emphasize your question and did so with a funny picture... (I didn't get that joke either...)

imho (and maybe I missed something) either "Edwards Mosaic" is a typo (most likely in "Edwards") or it means "Teddy Edwards Mosaic" which could be fairly exciting... (The legendary session with Don Sleet and Daniel Jackson playing Ornette recorded by Lenny McBrowne's wife ?!?! and more...).

I never try to make a fool out of anybody. What they do with themselves is beyond my interest and/or control.

ED Edwards, dammit! A KILLER set just waiting to happen!

Hans,

I was referring to the new Teddy Wilson set that was announced some time ago.  I think I got my Teddys mixed up.  Sorry about that.  I have not seen any anticipated release dates or pre-order notices, so I'm unsure if it is still in the works.  If it is, that's great news.  I'd be happy with a Mosaic Records still putting out a couple of sets a year

BBR,

The thing I know I'd like answered is how many back ordered sets they did order.  I think it's honorable of them to have had the back ordered sets repressed as there were customers like me who had placed orders for them.  Their original communications had cast some doubt on  JPJ, Mingus and a couple of others.  But I think that orders placed for them convinced them that just dropping them from the catalog.  Assuming they did order the minimum of 250 sets, I guess it will be interesting to see if they simply let the go the last chance route.

Maybe going out of business was too strong a statement, but it seems they are at least reducing the size of the catalog and inventory.

We'll just have to see where this all goes.

Awww, c'mon. You don't need our help for that. ;)

More seriously: you can do a Google image search on the picture, and it will correctly identify it for you.

Probably. But overall THAT "Edwards" person is irrelevant and immaterial today. So why fuss about this in any direction anyway? ^_^
