With 17 dollars a piece including shipping it was a good haul again that arrived with only 4 days. I’m happy Outstanding! That Cannonball LP with Wynton Kelly is one of his very best, imo. 8 minutes ago, mjazzg said: A 1959 issue of Brubeck's 'Time Out'. Just the cover design alone is worth the entry price but I love the music An original press of Mingus 'Tonight At Noon' because I'm on such a big Mingus trip at the moment and for the same reason Dannie Richmond Quartet - Ode to Mingus which I've really been surprised by and enjoying through streaming this holiday. Three gems! Quote

All from UK sellers so no Brexit-tax issues RecordcityJP. Nice original presses you scored. I don’t think I even own 1 original pressing. Would love to hear one enjoy! 57 minutes ago, HutchFan said: Outstanding! That Cannonball LP with Wynton Kelly is one of his very best, imo. Definitely! Love the opener especially but this was also one of my first jazz cds so fond memories! A damaged OJC digipack that really got me into Cannonball. Quote
GA Russell Posted January 1, 2024 Report Posted January 1, 2024 Twenty-five years ago I was in the habit of starting every new year with new (to me) albums by Julie London and Charlie Parker. So now I have just opened up Julie's Lonely Girl. Quote

Listened to it once and initial impressions are very positive. Not like her previous album except the writing comes across as having a depth and breadth not dissimilar to the big band disc. The quintet sounds bigger than it's five parts. I like the use of synthesiser This seems more about harmony than the rhythmic focus of the small group disc of the previous set. There's a very involved theoretical explanation of what's she did to create the music but it went way over my head. Well worth a listen but maybe not quite as original in sound, rather than approach, as all the theory suggests. Quote

felser Posted January 13, 2024 Report Posted January 13, 2024 I have the individual albums, got this for the convenience of having all the hits in one place and the remastering. She had probably the strongest top 40 run (qualitywise) of any artist in the mid-60's. Quote
