A couple of orders:

Two Australian discs recommended by Kenny Weir over at the Other Place:

ALLAN BROWNE QUINTET - CYCLOSPORIN

JAMIE OEHLERS - THE ASSEMBLERS

And the new disc by one of the most distinctive jazz singers operating in the UK today (she's actually from Dublin, but works here):

Christine Tobin - Romance and Revolution

Miles at Birdland 1951

The sound of this CD is terrible. I returned back to the store where I bought it.

If you can get past the sound quality, there is some mighty fine playing on this disc. Sonny Rollins, J.J., Eddie 'Lockjaw' Davis, and more. I like it muchly.

Was away for one week in the Big Apple. Mostly on business. But took time out to visit several record stores and the WMFU record fair. Bought mostly CDs but found some vinyls including:

- Warne Marsh 'Warne Out' on Interplay,

- Billy Bang with Charles Tyler 'Rainbow Gladiator' on SoulNote,

- Roscoe Mitchell 'Snurdy McGurdy and her Dancin' Shoes' on Nessa (never saw that vinyl before),

- Joel Futterman and Jimmy Lyons 'Inneraction' on the privately released JDF label.

Never saw that one or the Roscoe Mitchell Nessa vinly before!

I finally found "Trio+One", an OOP 1988 David Liebman album on Owl records, with Dave Holland and Jack DeJohnette (and Carin Videntin on oboe on a few tracks).

I had an Ebay search running on this CD, and after several months one showed up. But I was outbid at more than $20. This time, a seller had a couple of copies of the CD at a buy-it-now price of $8 :)

Nice pickups! Some pretty good listening there.

  • Blue Mitchell - The Thing To Do (Fungii Mama is a great tune. I had only heard Kenny Barron's version of it before tonight.)
  • DJ Shadow - Endtroducing (A serious change of pace for me. Interesting music. Not very lively. I doubt I'll be playing this a lot)

- Warne Marsh 'Warne Out' on Interplay,

-

how's this one stack up.?

Love Marsh like many round here.

Is this as cool as the title suggests. Anyone seen this on CD ??

Gave this vinyl a quick hearing. It is one that needs much more careful listening to get into all its subtilities. Good to hear Warne Marsh with a bass and drums support. Nick Ceroli was one of the drums masters who was into a lot of stimulating records. Marsh overdubs on tenor on a 'Duet' track.

The album seems to have seen a CD reincarnation from Discovery on a reissue going by the name of 'Warne Marsh Groups Noteworthy'.

Constantly amazed at the poor showing of albums from Marsh in the record stores especially when you have to go through hundreds of albums by several Marsalises in the same area!
