djcavanagh Posted August 2, 2007 Report Posted August 2, 2007 Decided to try the Tower Records on-line store to see if their service has improved: Quartet (Dortmund) 1976: Anthony Braxton Quintet (Basel) 1977: Anthony Braxton This was the only place I could find that had these two cds. We'll see what happens. I don't think that you should hold your breath. They seem to have a lot of cds that are OOP that normally ship in two to four weeks. Worth a try though. Quote

Larry Kart Posted August 5, 2007 Report Posted August 5, 2007 Picked up two OJCs at the local used CD store: Indeed. The Golson is so good. FWIW -- as an example of how time passes -- I reviewed "Sonny's Dream" for Down Beat back in '68 or '69. Quote

ejp626 Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 I was at Dusty Groove and picked up Aquele Som Dos Gatos by Os Gatos and Alice in Jazzland by Stan Tracey. They carry a few other ReSteamed releases, so I will ask them if they plan on carrying Tracey's The Return of Captain Adventure. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 7, 2007 Report Posted August 7, 2007 Alice in Jazzland by Stan Tracey. That's a great session by Stan's 'Big Brass' recorded for Lansdowne/UK Columbia. The Reissue is from a decent vinyl - I've heard mixed reports about the sound but the music is so good, the main thing its back out there to enjoy. All of those Stan Tracey Big Brass recordings are great IMO. Even the one with Acker Bilk - 'Blue Acker'. Quote

MG DG (dustygroove), it's why i check it daily, for gems like that! 13.99 + shipping! and it freakin' burns. A CD? MG No--Used LP. It's weird though because over the prestige design on the cover theres a sticker that says 'Status' with a weird S deisgn under it. And on the back on the upper left it has the same design, and on the upper right corner it says 'Status 7212' and also, on the botton it says.. 'For free catalog send to Status Records, 203 SO. Washington Ave, Bergenfield, N.J.' But the label on the record is a prestige yellow label. anyone have any idea what this is about? Was status records part of prestige?? Quote

Ah - nearly had a fit, thinking this had been reissued. Yes, there were a lot of Prestige albums that reappeared with the Status logo - and not jusy Prestige; I've got or had MV and SV and NJ LPs with the logo on them. All NJ series LPs after 8303 were Status. MG Quote
