Just hit the wire services. Tough week.  This one really hurts, a true genius and incredible redemption story.

I don't know why I thought he had died already. Maybe I just heard that health issues meant no more public appearances?

Anyway I have never gotten deeply into the catalog that made him famous as musical/production genius, I just loved the hits off of Endless Summer which I got as a birthday gift around 1973 I think.

RIP.

Dang, this one really hurts and sucks. Wilson was the background to my life, such great music and was ubiquitous in the San Diego that I grew up in. His created the beach vibe that saturated the culture where I grew up. RIP.

Growing up in the Sixties with my ear glued to the transistor radio, The Beach Boys were always a part of my life.  So many great AM hits: 409, When I Grow Up, Barbara Ann, Wouldn't It Be Nice... Then, as I grew up, they seemed a little immature and uncool.  But they were always here, and I'm glad I reconnected with their music as I got older.  Brian's first solo album on Sire is really good, and I'm very impressed with their 50th anniversary tour album.  I'll leave comments about Brian's personal life to others; really, those sorts of stories seem all too common in show business (see Sly Stone as just one example).  But the music was great.  R.I.P.

Very glad I got to see him and several other former Beach Boys perform Pet Sounds in its entirety in 2016 at the Chicago Theater in Chicago. He was in relatively good form that evening. Like Dan and many others I had the Endless Summer collection as a kid in the 1970s, went through a long period of tuning out the band completely in the 1980s, and then gradually came to appreciate their musical legacy beyond the ubiquitous oldies radio staples that comprised ES. (Not to diss those songs, many of which are significant musical accomplishments in and of themselves.. I just got burned out on the American Graffiti-style nostalgia that came to surround them when I was younger.)

I practically wore out my LPs of "Endless Summer" when I was younger. We played it all the time when it was hot out. Summer music for summertime.

I only saw The Beach Boys once and it was a long time ago. I don't remember it being very good. I wish I got to see them in their prime.

Also Indiana's Four Freshmen!

Yeah, I never got it straight if it was only the Four Freshmen that he listened to, or if he also listened to the Hi-Los.  It was probably just the Four Freshmen.

He's the final scene in the 2024 Beach Boys documentary (on Disney), and includes the living 60's era members - David Marks, Al Jardine, Brian, Mike Love, and Bruce Johnston.

I think this 2nd picture may have been from promoting the documentary, and includes Blondie Chaplin (and director Frank Marshall).
