  1. OK.... Is it just me or is that a double entendre begging for a punchline? ← Double what? You speakin' French to me Sweetie?
  2. I suggest you learn about "topics" and "threads". Some of us know about this but this is not the right place.
  3. Been a long time since I could say that! ← Which part... "under certain conditions" or "draw the line"? Guy ← I think "draw the line" is correct. I wanna walk into Rachel's Outback and have some fish.
  4. Great! A chance to hear my OJC cds with surface noise!
  5. Been a long time since I could say that!
  6. The Impulse stuff from Germany was on cd (Impulse GRD-150) and it is very fine indeed.
  7. I'm sure AZ is happy to see another of "you guys" go. I know you'll be in touch.
  8. Lots of "inbreeding" in this thread lately.
  9. Kinda harsh Jazzbo. He's looking for a deal from an unhappy customer. Not a bad thing. I would not like to think about one of my customers "stuck" with something they did not like.
  10. Since ballads were his "specialty" the classic sides collections feature these. I suggest looking for later stuff like the Black Lion discs. OTOH, the early stuff is better than dandy. Byas was a mofo.
  11. Not a "sophisticated" call, but my current cheap, summer beverage is the "counterfeit" Fosters (brewed in Canadia). It is very refreshing on a hot day and available around here for about $8.50 for a 12 pack. Don't know about the distribution - could not find it in MO or IA this summer.
  12. I'd suggest one of her earlier recordings. Did she do it 3 times? She became "mannered" in later years.
  13. Don't do it Brownie, don't do it! Stay strong, my brother.
  14. Lazaro Vega, who posts here, has had the same problem. He has worked around it a bit by getting waivers from the record companies. Some grant blanket waivers, some do it show by show and some will not grant them. Laz could fill you in on the details.
  15. Shit, I can't finance my own projects!
  16. The Garner performances are as you might expect if you are familiar with his style of the period. He plays well, but Don Byas and Buck Clayton are at least as important to the concert. Sunenblick makes a few errors in his notes. He says only one disc is missing but there is no recording of the Tony Scott piece or any of the Pearl Bailey material. There is also (at least) one Garner trio disc missing and many other performances are missing parts. It would have been difficult to add material even if the Garner estate gave permission. It is a miracle all the Diz/Bird stuff survived. Let us count our blessings, not regret the losses.
  17. My set has no sig but I have two of the bonus discs.
  18. Osco Drugs, Ames Iowa, 1961. They had 4 or 5 bins of lps for $1.79 in the front window. Got a bunch of Jazzland, Seeco, Debut, Crown, Design, etc. Over the span of about 90 days I learned a bunch about the music AND the record biz.
  19. If this is the way you really feel, you have no right to your "phony balony" screen name.
  20. Name of the company was changed after a trademark dispute. The label was (at least partially) owned by Fred Astaire.
  21. Thanks Chuck. Guess I should have been more specific: What does this set usually go for? If it ebay's at $100, then I'll wait; if $250 or higher, then I'd pull the trigger. I have some of the cuts here and there, but would love to have it all in one place if $250 is fair / going rate. ← I think you were clear enough. When new I think I paid around $200 and it was regularly available. Not available now and I would pay more for the music. As an artifact "on the market" I don't have a clue. That's why I tried to make some sort of distinction - music vs. artifact.
  22. 21 Japanese pressed lps - that's 11.90 a disc. Your call. Edit to say the music is wonderful but your name indicates a vinyl interest so that is how I responded.
  23. Mike is talking about 12 inch issues I guess.
  24. This brings up images of my dorm room in 1962.
