  1. From my perspective as an old fart, I think it is worth listing the folks you missed. I missed Ayler, Bird, Pres, Bud and that might be it. Yes, I missed the Charlie Johnson band, but let's be serious. I saw Trane (3-6 times) depending on nights spent at the gig.
  2. I have stayed out of this being on the fringes of "semi-pro", but I have master tapes, acetates, dats of masters/acetates, dubs of master tapes - you get the idea. How about a duo of Hershal Evans and Mary Lou Williams? AND the Diz/Bird Uptown stuff. AND I used to have the Coltrane Records release of "Cosmic Music". Got a thousand for that baby.
  3. Donald Clarke is a very good friend of mine and I lived through many of the "trials" he had while working on his book. I'm saying this as a disclaimer, but I really like his book. I can imagine something better but don't expect to see it.
  4. Oh yeah, please point out my "not correct" points. Your "claim" about The Flip is just that.
  5. I will let you stand there. They (BN) rarely give all titles in a release to BMG and I have all the ones you mention with BMG markings 'cept The Flip which I had to buy elsewhere.
  6. Look, you said "it was listed", nothing about your thoughts. The Flip and the Jack Wilson were in different releases IIRC, hence my "thinking clearly".
  7. Loaded, and I didn't need to install drivers. I just didn't hit the right button - my ancient HP LaserJet 5L works fine. Thanks for all the suggestions.
  8. I think you are not thinking clearly or making a bunch of assumptions.
  9. Don't think they (or BMG) ever listed The Flip. What you smokin' boy?
  10. I guess I was fooled by the message I received mentioning the make and model of the printer added.
  11. Yes but, every time I try to print something I get a "send a fax" message.
  12. After TurboTax wouldn't load, I decided to move beyond Windows95. So, I might seem distracted for a day or two while setting it up. Please bear with me and (if the need arises) answer any questions I might have along the way. To stop the first inquiry, I got another Gates system 'cause I can't afford a Mac. I know it's like shopping at Wal-Mart.
  13. I love this set. In addition if you buy the CD/DVD set called Duke Ellington The Centennial Collection you will get a "cleaned up" version of Jack The Bear.
  14. Nah, it's just another ankle biter like my mother-in-law's dog.
  15. Lots of light fluffy stuff coming down all morning but the sun is starting to break through as I type.
  16. Doesn't anyone remember my mention of another 6 minutes from a different gig? I suspect that's what this is. The timings don't match the Town Hall acetate side breaks and Sid Catlett is the drummer on Hot House, in fact it is a "showcase" for him.
  17. You seem to know the best "commercial" stuff but seek out the Basie airchecks like "At the Chatterbox", stuff from the Famous Door, Meadowbrook Ballroom, etc.
  18. Thanks for bringing this up. I'm sure all us old farts relearned a few lessons from Von's demonstrations.
  19. Garth? Is that the reading/writing/critic guy with the Defranco fixation? If so, Happy Birthday. B-)
  20. Sorry to be so late. Happy, Happy! Gloves are off in the morning. B-)
  21. I have bought new editions in at least 5 decades. HELLO!
  22. SORRY! For me, pre-war Lester was from a different planet and post-war he joined the rest of us. The post-war stuff is first rate, but (pre-war) DAMN!
  23. Sorry I didn't have time to get that David Gates cd for your birthday.
