  1. I'll keep an eye out for it. It does ring some very faint bells, especially the fiction/non-fiction element Sadly my books are largely inaccessible and I can't remember which ones I particularly enjoyed apart from the Laurie Lee.
  2. Womad's a force for good. Brexit and right wing politicians aren't. Here's hoping good prevails in the long run
  3. Thirty years ago I read the Hugh Thomas history and Orwell and others. I think that exhausted my need to read about it for quite a while. When I used to take annual holidays in Spain back in 80s/90s I was still very interested in it. I suspect these chapters my reignite an interest. My interest is often still piqued by novels set then. The chapters about pre-war Barcelona sent my mind back to Mendoza's 'City Of Marvels', a marvellous book as I recall
  4. Your neighbours are enjoying a good selection this evening. That's a terrific album Your neighbours are enjoying a great selection this evening
  5. So was I. Remember it as being revelatory although I can't begin to identify a tracklisting asit all melded into one long track as I recall it
  6. Exactly that. Although I'm waiting to see how the post-war relationship with Franco and the establishment pans out. Could yet be that that perception comes more from the years of dictatorship. I'll see and I'll enjoy seeing too, either way. Lowe not to florid so far
  7. they turned the AC off to avoid the noise... EP played Monk both solo and in duet and Wright played Lacy solo. They only played maybe 15-20 minutes total in the first half. Lots of entertaining reminiscing from EP about Lacy and more informed "research" from Wright. I think EP was struggling with the heat too
  8. It certainly does. The early Civil War chapters are particularly enlightening so far
  9. Punishing stage today. Great to see Quintana finally show. Thomas is looking really strong reacting to everything Doumoulin and Roglic threw at him. Froome struggling, amongst all the boos
  10. always pleased to hear a new Texier. He might be accused of ploughing a narrow furrow but it always produces
  11. Last night, Evan Parker and Seymour Wright talking about, analysing and occasionally playing the music of Steve Lacy. Unfortunately furnace conditions in Cafe Oto meant I bailed at half time. Well worth it to hear EP play Monk and to see the rare sight of him sight reading (only previously witnessed with the Kenny Wheeler Large Ensembe, I think) as he said "I don't often play notated music". Which was a bit of an understatement in itself.
  12. Very much enjoying this. Thanks Brad! Reigniting my latent interest in things Spanish and memories of trips to both cities.
  13. Not Much Noise - s/t [PolJazz] enjoy this one more each time I play it. An O Board recommendation, but sadly I can't remember who to credit
  14. Toshio Matsuura Group - Loveplaydance (6 Scenes From The Floor) [Brownswood Recordings]
  15. Victoria Park, Hackney. definitely John Coltrane - Meditations [HMV UK, mono] picked this up today, along with a nice copy 'Expression' whilst out shopping for 'Both Directions At Once'. The stars were aligned
  16. Alice Coltrane - Journey In Satchidinanda [Impulse] One of my all time favourites, never fails to reward. A recently purchased first pressing sounds very alive.
  17. I'm following the evening highlights. They're plugging the WC hole That Alpes d'Huez stage was a great watch, attack and counter-attack and Thomas winning again. I loved his interviews where he appeared genuinely surprised and overcome by his achievement - it was a nice contrast to so much scripted sports interviews. Could this be the year the baton's passed as it was from Wiggins to Froome when it became obvious Froome was stronger. It will be interesting to see how it develops. Doumoulin's looking good too. It really does intrigue me how Sky always manage to ride as a team in a manner that no other team seems to do. I don't know enough to really understand why this is but I'm guessing it's money and rider recruitment. I'm with John on Froome and a feeling of disappointment (nothing much stronger than that at the moment). I can't understand the seemingly strong correlation between professional road racers and asthma...
  18. I saw Kraftwerk last year, exceeded all expectations. I hope you enjoyed it
  19. and I don't know the first thing about The Grateful Dead. Maybe that helps Warren Street Station, when I knew it
  20. I never realised..no wonder he had that odd smile and continually rocked in his chair
  21. Yes, I agree. Pleased to make its acquaintance
