  1. Just ordered a copy of the Bridgewater Bros. album off the back of enthusiasm for it here and a listen to some online clips. Thanks for highlighting its existence. I've also now dl'd the BFT which isn't really in the spirit, I know but want to hear some other things that have got such good reactions. I'd've only had a chance on the Brackeen which I own, I love the two McNeill albums I have and that El-p is about the only Blue Series I don't own. Wish I'd joined in at the beginning
  2. Last night, Cafe Oto - John Tilbury, Ute Kanngiesser, Steve Noble. 65 minutes of top drawer, minimal improv
  3. I'm sorry Steve but I don't. I know your love of all things Maneri but my investigation of his music twenty odd years ago didn't go far. I have 3 Men Walking and that's it. Also now realised I have the Ware in your list. I think the Hats are on Spotify so I'll go again with more mature ears
  4. The Dunmall's the only one I do have
  5. Thankfully Spotify enables me to enjoy it. Seems to be available as a dl from Trunk too
  6. Yeah, that's a very good one
  7. recorded in Stoke Newington so not really bells I'm sure that's the intention
  8. Yes. My neighbour's a dyed in the wool Roma fan. Maybe they could agree to alternate
  9. Thanks Brad, that's helpful guidance. I had intended to read 'The Spy...' next up but now I'll insert 'A Call for the Dead' ahead of it. 'Legacy Of Spies' is definitely last on the list although already purchased on a whim. All of those come after learning why Barca always were the team for me to prefer in Spain but now with evidence . The diabolical theft of Di Stefano...and other sins and I haven't even got to Sergio Ramos yet!
  10. Binker And Moses - Alive In The East? [Gearbox] and then, for rather obvious reasons Pharoah Sanders - Live At The East [Impulse/ABC]
  11. Really? Thanks for the tip, I'll see if it's anywhere else
  12. That's interesting. I recently finished 'An Honourable Schoolboy' which I thought a tremendous read. This got me thinking I really needed to read the other Smiley/Karla series (I've only read 'Tinker, Tailor...', years ago) before reading the copy of 'A Legacy Of Spies' that's sitting here. Looks like I may need to start with this then.
  13. Off the back of this thread I'm playing 'Alive In The East' again. It's a fabulously alive recording. I've also booked a ticket to see them next month
  14. Always wanted to hear that, never have. I like Fresu a lot Reminder to look again, thanks
  15. I think it's very fine. I saw them play it live. It's respectful of Komeda's music but allows the band to express themselves without being constrained by it. Those tunes can't be suppressed and they shine. It's an ECM album, which is a good thing in my book, and has all the productions values that come with that. I can't see a fan of Komeda's music not appreciating it. I may play it next as a tribute
  16. John Coltrane - Interstellar Space [ABC/Impulse]
  17. A Lark Ascending, a few times before and after his departure, and Alex Hawkins, a few post gig/set chats, for me. Although it seems I've been in the same concert hall as Sidewinder on more than one occasion
  18. and that was some association. The ECM releases are such an impressive body of work that they sometime overshadow what great work he did beforehand with and without Komeda
  19. Yes, indeed. Well ridden Thomas especially, Froome, especially Bernal on Friday. I really do have mixed feelings about Sky, anything owned by Murdoch is anathema, I don't tend to like any teams that dominate their sport like this and the Wiggins/parcel shenanigans was so disappointing. However, I have to admire a team that seems to be so tactically ahead of their rivals and so consistently able to outmanoeuvre them. I still don't understand why no other team seems to be able to replicate this approach of bossing the peloton so consistently. Summer of fun only just getting going over here...first Test Match, against the world's best, India starts wednesday. WC and TDF have just been appetisers
  20. No way! That's dreadful news, was he ill? I've been enjoying his music for years and enjoyed a number of live performances
  21. Glad you enjoyed it. I don't find many of this new wave of Brit Jazz very out there, nearly all of it is very defined by rhythmic concept (not a bad thing at all) often with the drummers being the most impressive musicians in these bands, to my ears at least. Whilst I enjoy Binker Golding's and Shabaka Hutching's playing I hear two players still forming their individual voices -Hutchings is certainly getting closer these days. It's interesting that Binker & Moses need to add that little known up and comer and youngster Evan P ( I absolutely love the fact that he's got involved) to lend their music any real element of harmonic or rhythmic freedom. None of which detracts in the slightest from them being "a damn fun listen" like Theon.
  22. For those of you enjoying Binker & Moses and especially Sons of Kemet, I'd suggest a listen trying Theon Cross's album 'Aspirations' https://theoncross.bandcamp.com/releases
