  1. I get off the bus at 1975. I've yet to hear anything after then that would interest me.
  2. If you must do download, at least make it FLAC. I buy physical media (mostly CDs, some vinyl). I only buy downloads when I am forced to, i.e. the Anthony Braxton subscription site, or the King Crimson live series, neither of which are offered in physical formats. And I am finding that I already forgot what I have downloaded! It helps to have a professionally pressed CD.
  3. ummm, no. Not quite. You might want to read up a bit on the history of inventors, innovators, etc.
  4. a whole industry? which one? I mean, take your pick- personal computers, music, mobile phones, you could even argue portable gaming devices with the iPod Touch, and now whatever industry the iPad has launched. And don't forget Pixar. His influence is vast and will be long lasting. One of the greatest American inventors/innovators, up there with Franklin and Edison.

    Anthony Braxton

The download is available now. I've enjoyed most of everything Braxton that I've come across so far, but I'm not sure I can handle an opera. I might be sitting this one out.
  6. happy birthday to the greatest goalie the Canadiens ever had! Just kidding, happy birthday KD!
  7. This has to be the most cliched of them all. I cringe whenever I read it. The Hoffman board seems to particularly enjoy overusing it.
  8. Anyone else pick up the error in the notes? There's a reference made to Shorter's AUTObiography, "Footprints". Pretty sure he didn't write it.
  9. they should have done this in 96 when their drummer quit. They've sucked bad since then.
  10. Mine arrived today. However, I am in Seattle until Thursday, so I won't be able to hear it until then.
  11. I ordered it from Sony's store, didn't feel like cancelling it to re-pre-order from Amazon, so I paid a little extra, but it shipped yesterday. Normally I would have bought this with a coupon at Borders on release day...
  12. The history behind the shift from Art Ensemble to "- of Chicago" is on the front of the Nessa box set. Roscoe called it Art Ensemble; a promoter in France added the Chicago descriptor in 1969.
  13. I thought Clapton stopped caring around '71.
  14. Why change up the packaging at this point? I kind of like the digipaks for the mini-LP look of the earlier sets. I still have to get this one and the next one, though.
  15. They still make Blackberrys? There is an Android app for Google+. Probably an iPhone one too.
  16. I can't get in. Guess I'm not part of the cool crowd. I thought they had shut it down to new members, even those with invitations, due to the flood of people trying to join? Has it opened back up?
  17. It is extremely easy for people to immigrate to Canada. A former co-worker went to university at Wayne State in Detroit, lived in Windsor, ON, maintained his Canadian residence while he finished his PhD and then his post-doc at American universities. He applied for Canadian citizenship as soon as he could (I don't remember exactly how long it took, but it was somewhere around 3, 4 years) and he got it without ever having worked or having a job offer in Canada, or even attending a Canadian school. Ridiculous. The health care system is not free- you don't pay at the point of service, but you pay in other ways, such as higher taxes, lower wages on average than in America, and much, MUCH longer wait times. And, you still pay for dental, and at least in NB, prescription drugs are more expensive than what I pay here.
  18. I think Om and Transition may be the only Coltrane that I haven't heard yet (official releases, at least). Guess I'll have to get the boxes.
  19. ann arbor.com reports that people felt it in SE Michigan. I did not, however.
  20. As I recall they were primarily known for their music which was distinctive and different from other bands of the time (and, to my ears at least, music that still repays listening to whether for pure enjoyment or nostalgic reasons). They also had distinctive sleeves. I'm not sure all the extra gimmicks began until around '73. Well, doesn't the cover count as packaging? I'd go for some vintage live releases, from the Meddle/Atom Heart Mother/Obscured by Clouds era. I'm not going for any of these rereleases unless they come down in price, but I don't object to them.
  21. I don't see what the problem is. Pink Floyd was known for their packaging and artwork. It fits, really. And it sure as hell beats a download!
  22. I'd like to hear that Couturier.
  23. It's Trygve Seim - none too difficult... can't put it phonetically, but it's rather easy to pronounce, too (can't think of an english word that has the same pronounciation as the "y" in Trygve though, but the first syllable is stressed, so it's 'Tryg-ve, and the e at the end is mute, similar to how it is in "the"... Seim... the "ei" is as in "aye aye sir", kind of :-) ) Anyway... that one looks interesting. Haarla makes some good music. The Trio isn't really happening too much for me, without Stanko, but I confess I only have the first disc (and found it rather boring, hence was reluctant to buy more). Me, I've just gave Miroslav Vitous' "Remembering Weather Report" a first spin today... I know it came out two years ago, but that's about as fast I get to new releases, most often. I quite enjoyed it! This is still a favorite of mine.
