  1. I don't know. I'm wary of Clapton now, since his mid-90s immersion in lite-rock and I thought From the Cradle was pretty tepid and boring. I'll probably skip this one
  2. I wasn't very familiar at all with most of the non-LP stuff on this box, and I simply played the box in order from disc 1. Seemed like the best way for me. I like the many takes of Willie Nelson after hearing them a # of times
  3. uhh, Big Wheel? I think I'm accurate. He turned against Bush a month before the FCC went after him, but only because he was brainwashed by Franken's book. It's peculiar how he suddenly goes against everything he had said for the last 3 years. I've lost a lot of respect I had for him because he's a bigger flip-flopper than Kerry. Good riddance. Oh, and the "Bush crowd" is corrupt, like 99% of all politicians. Who would expect anything less?
  4. I'm following this with bemusement. Howard is such a big flip-flopping hypocrite, it's now wonder he's supporting Kerry now!!! Right after Sept 11 2001 and the war in Iraq he was so supportive of Bush and kept insisting to people who called in how good a job Bush was doing, how right the war was, etc. Now, just because the FCC is comign after him (unfairly), he suddenly changes his mind about Bush. He actually thinks Bush now stole the election (enough already about that- it's simply not true) and that he knew something about Sept 11 and is protecting Bin Laden's family!!! And he's insisting that the war was wrong!! All of this because the FCC is after him?? How does one bad judgement by Bush to send the FCC after Stern make him now wrong in everything else?? And that yes-man Robin just kisses his ass by agreeing with every single thing he says!!! I remember them both praising Bush just a year ago, now those very same things they loved about him they both insist are bad qualities. It's ridiculous. Nothing like consistency. Anyway, I heard he wants to be on both XM and Sirius. I would be interested in checking out whichever had more jazz (and less- no, wait, NONE if possible- rap)
  5. anything with bobby mcferrin will keep me miles away from it
  6. Those King Crimson Collector's Club releases with Mel Collins have been making a dent in my savings. yeah, me too. I'm glad they are releasing those, to show how good that version of the band really was. Closest to jazz for Crimson too
  7. in the rock realm I closely follow King Crimson with all their collector's club releases, etc, and I've been sampling Ryan Adam's output here and there, along with Whiskeytown, but most of my listening is still 80-90% jazz
  8. how did you get these vouchers? I tried clicking on the link posted above and it redirects me to the sign in page and once i'm signed in i can't find any settlement pages. I have been a member off and on for 4 years, and I've bought plenty of regular priced CDs
  9. man, just what are you TALKING about??? His Springsteen cover is superb!! I wish he had covered the entire Nebraska album, which is easily one of the very best folk albums to have come along. What could be better- an empathetic great interpreter covering some of the best songs written by a very talented songwriter? It just doesn't get any better than this
  10. yes, with CH you have to sign up and buy something like 3 or 4 or maybe 5 CDs in 2 or 3 years, something like that. They have a good selection of jazz box sets with good prices, but not much else. The regular price for discs is around $18 and I think S & H is $3, but they usually have deals where you can get so many free with one regular price purchase. Let me PM you the link where you can check it out; if you sign up on my recommendation then I get 5 free CDs too!!
  11. sorry, man, I could never let my copy go. just too essential to my collection. Try Columbia House, I think it's pretty cheap there
  12. this is a great show most of the time. Some pop culture references I don't get but otherwise it's very funny
  13. I like what Keith Jarrett wrote in his Inside Out liners
  14. All I know is that A-Rod is a great player, Schilling, pedro, Brown, etc etc are all great, but I am absolutely sick of Boston-NY talk. There ARE other teams in this league, although Steinbrenner is trying to incorporate all of them into his farm system
  15. I don't buy this at all. I like coffee, a lot, and I drink it black when I can't find (at work) or don't have any half & half. Liking a different version of coffee is not the same as not liking coffee. Sometimes black is fine, sometimes murky white is fine! But sweetening is a definite no-no
  16. I am thinking of trying soy half and half in my coffee, for a change. Normally I use non-fat or if I have to (like at Starbucks, for example) the regular half and half
  17. I wish they'd get the rest of the Dylan SACDs in there already. Columbia House has them all but they won't let my wife join. I was going to get them all in the intro offer under her name but they are demanding bank account info, etc, making it more difficult than usual to join, so I told them I'll just give my money to someone else.
  18. my wife tries to have an open mind, as she came with me to see Hancock and Shorter and then again both artists when they came with their own quartets, and she really enjoyed the Jarrett trio. But most of the time she looks absolutely bored when I have any music on (she prefers TV and movies) and I swear I can see her shudder when I put Zappa or King Crimson on. I have a catch-22 with work, too: I work in a lab so guys are playing music all the time, but of course my tastes are in the tiny minority (I'd list the crap I hear other people play but I choose to ignore most of it. Lots of contemporary angry-young-man angst ridden formulaic garbage) so the few times I play jazz or some challenging music it's non-stop complaints and lots of "zingers"!! So I just listen to music on my mp3 player or in the car.
  19. I've never liked the vibes, marimba, etc. Guess that's why I could never appreciate Dolphy's Out to Lunch, or Dave Holland's current band. That sound just instantly make me think of Lawrence Welk or ultra-smooth music!!!
  20. I'm done with baseball. I have been a fan for 25 years, until now. This is sickening. The Yankees just go out and do whatever they want. How was this allowed but the Sox weren't allowed to trade for him?? (I'm not a fan of either team).
  21. This isn't even close to being correct. They recently added the Buffalo Springfield box set, which was released 3 years ago. They also added a Son Volt disc, originally released in 1996, and the I-10 chronicles, originally released around '99. These are original issues, not reissues.
  22. I must be missing something here. I am a big, big fan of Steely Dan and I think Santana is great. I especially love his tone. So, where do I fit, if I like them both??
  23. My email says the 60's box is this fall. I believe the Cellar Door stuff isn't going to be a box but a series of double CDs
  24. I voted for JuJu, but I really like Footprints Live. I've listened to that quite a bit since I saw him with that same quartet 2 years ago. It may not be his best but I think it ranks right up there close to the best
