Will soon be enjoying the Mulligan CJB - finally! Picked it up in its Universal version in a store I NEVER imagined to have it, and for quite a good prize, as well (a bit less than the Mosaic prize, no shipping, no taxes, no nothing).

The set I have has no number, but it states that it's part of the 7500 edition - so there will be numbers NOT on any of these sets... strange!

Not a Mosaic but have enjoyed these past few days discs 1 thru 12 of the 24CD RCA Duke Ellington Centennial Edition.

A Mosaic class reissue! Been waiting for years for Columbia to go ahead on a similar box with their pre-1952 Ellington

sessions! If Columbia won't work on this, let's have Mosaic do it!

Next on the listening range will be discs 13 to 24 of the RCA box.

Gene Krupa/Harry James Mosaic - disc 7

~ Starting this set from the last disc. Some nice Ernie Wilkins & Neal Hefti arrangements. The James' band sound a little like the Basie new testament.

Just completed listening to the Harry James recordings over the weekend. Nice swinging music, immaculate arrangements and playing. Really liked the 4 songs with Helen Forrest on vocals too.

Disc 1 " Complete Verve Tal Farlow Concert Band Sessions" , lovely unassuming stuff. Think I'll stick to regular Mosaics from Mosaic from now on. Then again this euro set was very cheap at £62.

The first Krupa disc.

Listened to the Christy/Lee set for the first time earlier today. Loved the Lee; the Christy stuff pretty much left me cold...

I felt the same way the first time I listened to the Christy/Lee set. Upon repeated listening, however, June Christy has become my preferred singer from the set. She is just oh so cool. I really enjoy the "You're Blasé" track.

The Carmell Jones Select. Some mighty fine stuff on this one...especially the nonet and sextet sessions arranged by Gerald Wilson on disc 2. Not to mention the fact that the elusive Hadley Caliman is in the tenor chair for one of the sesssions on the third disc.

Up over and out.

I've been playing a lot of the Anita O'Day box. She's consistent throughout, but there are so many different groups behind her that they become the most interesting thing about the set to me. Some really great players on this one.
