always wished i could see him in concert. closest opp, or rather only opp i could have had was in 2008 he played the vancouver jazz festival. but this was a time period where i was not driving very much, and certainly not long dist.

After the mother of all storms last night, some very sad news to start the day. I've always thought he was brilliant, from the time I bought that 'Morning' 2LP Savoy set. His music, although exotic, was always totally infused with the blues and played with great feeling.

RIP - glad I got the chance to see him (NorthSea, with the Belmondos - even watching him pack his horns away was fascinating). 'Live At Peps' is one of the greatest live albums ever IMO. This year really is starting to feel like the end of an era

Never saw him play - by the time I saw the Adderleys Charles Lloyd had replaced him - but once saw him walking across Leicester Square with his saxophone case at a time when he was appearing at Ronnie's.
