Rabshakeh Posted August 20, 2020 Report Posted August 20, 2020 Gruppo Di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza - s/t, 1966. I think this may have been Ennio Morricone's first record. Some difficult stuff to digest. Duck Baker - Spinning Song: Duck Baker Plays the Music of Herbie Nichols, 1996. A finger picked take on Herbie Nichols that doesn't sound at all bluegrass. It comes across as a mellowed out John Fahey, really. A nice record. Quote
Buddha the Magnificent Posted August 20, 2020 Report Posted August 20, 2020 The Jayhawks - XOXO (2020). Gary Louris - guitar; Marc Perlman - bass; Karen Grotberg - keyboards; Tim O’Reagan - drums. They all sing. Quote

Saw him twice around 1990. First at Wigan with Paquito D'Rivera and a Latin rhythm section - one of the most sizzling of all gigs I've attended! Then in Manchester with the Dizzy Gillespie United Nations Orchestra with his sparring partner Arturo SandovaL  Quote

Kevin Bresnahan Posted August 21, 2020 Report Posted August 21, 2020 John Beasley - Positootly! (Resonance). Nice date with Beasley at the keys and a killer band - Brian Lynch on trumpet, Bennie Maupin on tenor & soprano, James Genus on bass and Jeff "Tain" Watts on drums. Very nicely recorded too at (the now closed) Bennett Studios. Very glad I picked this one up at the Resonance sale a few weeks back. Quote

This is a nice album, I didn't like it as much as Letter to Herbie though which is fantastic Quote
