A different feel/ambiance for sure...Have listened before but not ready to say one is better than the other. The rhythm section, other than Manne, is different and of course Candoli brings a different vibe from Gordon on trumpet. Quote
duaneiac Posted August 27, 2021 Report Posted August 27, 2021 On many of the tracks, Jeff Clayton overdubs several reed parts to create a larger band sound. In the liner notes, Ray Brown writes that this was one of the last recordings made by Freddie Green, but there is no recording date (or a date of any kind) to be found on this CD. Quote
JSngry Posted August 27, 2021 Author Report Posted August 27, 2021 Going to church before lunch. And again...quadrophonic? What's up with that? What could be done in terms of modern day surround sound? Anything at all? Quote

Would be excellent to see a run of Sun Ra quad SACDs (or insert other media that would highlight this feature) from somebody. Hopefully someone that's involved with those or otherwise has an ear somewhere is paying attention. 1 minute ago, soulpope said: It is hard to pick, but to me the difference maker is Russ Freeman .... For sure. On their own, I'd rate Freeman higher than Feldman Quote

I prefer the sound of the Blackhawk recordings but have a sentimental attachment to the Candoli, Kamuca, Freeman group because I saw them in person. Quote

Maybe a real thing? I'd just like to know that it was on somebody's radar as a possibility, that's all. Quote

T.D. Posted August 27, 2021 Report Posted August 27, 2021 I've discovered a lot of British jazz through Scott's (lately via Michael) sales on this forum. Motivated by discussion on another thread. Quote
