Ike Quebec 45 Sessions Being Reissued - Vinyl & CD
dougcrates replied to Dan Gould's topic in Re-issues
There are a lot of regional pronunciations in Canada and I've heard both "kwe-BEK" and "ke-BEK" but never "QWEE-bek" or "KEE-bek" -

I'd love a copy of the Myers album, but otherwise I don't think these are too hard to come by. The MB solo is a perennial $20 used LP, the Sun Ra has been reissued several times, the Wertman was reissued a few years ago and it still around, and the McCraven is being prepared for reissue now via a Kickstarter campaign: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wooleythenewt1/stephen-mccraven-wooley-the-newt

Ike Quebec 45 Sessions Being Reissued - Vinyl & CD
Big Beat Steve replied to Dan Gould's topic in Re-issues
So how do the Canadians pronounce the city of "Quebec"? From what I remember from those I've encountered around here or heard on Canadian Army radio (when there still was such a thing here) it is more like "kwe-BEK" or "ke-BEK" but rarely "QWEE-bek" or "KEE-bek". I.e pronounced with the stress on the end (as with the habitants referred to as the "ke-BEKKERS"). But as you indicate, it apparently is different with his name. -

I love the 2 CD set. On many days I like it better than Quebec’s LPs. -

In an interview with Art Taylor, Percy describes "Ike QWEE-bek" as a "real buddy of mine". It never occurred to me that proper pronunciation might be a long "e" but that's how Percy said his name.

Yes, from all I've read before I realize it's like you said. But for a CONSCIENTIOUSLY programmed re-reissue that's no reason not to include them this time around IMHO. After all, as you confirm they WERE intended for marketing as 45s. Or was it a matter of playing time? (Which I somehow find hard to believe if there had been a will - considering that the set has 3 LPs). -
