Daniel Humair is a serious badass.

So great ! My younger son, who lives in Spain and stays some days with me (I had an important gig and he went to see to show), we listened to this, it´s my favourite from the Prime Time I think. And sometimes it sounds similar to Punk Rock which is cool. I like Ornette´s violin playing on the last track "Compute" very much. It´s so strong the whole album.

For a second, you had me imagining Teddy Wilson with Duke Jordan... Might be really nice, if it worked out but quite risky ... NP: Lawrence Brown - Inspired Abandon

What live music are you going to see tonight?

I'm deciding between going back to The Rex to see the Murley Eisenman Quartet again (Mike Murley, Mark Eisenman, Neil Swainson and Terry Clarke). I saw them on Wed. though a different drummer was sitting in, and they were excellent. Or heading over to Hirut for a group called the House Blend Septet (a 2 trumpet, 2 saxophone line-up including Alex Dean). I think I am slightly leaning towards Hirut, in part because they serve quite nice Ethiopian food at Hirut! Not that the food at the Rex is bad, certainly far better than what the Jazz Bistro serves... Choices, choices... -
Now, “The Inimitable Teddy Wilson” Xanadu cd Teddy with Duke Jordan, Larry Ridley and Freddie Waits. Really hitting the spot right now.

Qobuz is running a nice sale on HighNote label. This includes quite a few Woody Shaw releases. CD quality downloads of Woody Shaw Live Vol. 1 - 4 are dirt cheap, $2.95 or $3.70, as are the two volumes of The Tour: $4.44 each.

Where can others view these log books? -
Don't know. My CD set is 2 disks. Haven't read the extensive Ashley Kahn liners, though. Might be explained there?

About 1969 I read in Down Beat one of their writers (probably a columnist) refer to an incident, but he did not name names. A musician (I think a sax player) was mad at his employer, and intended to quit. So for his last performance, every note of every solo was the same note. One note for an entire set. Instead of ruining the performance as he expected, the crowd loved it and went wild. Does anybody know who the employee and employer were, and anything else about that anecdote?

Have to confess, I’ve ever taken note of who was on drums on Black Narcissus before — and Humair has quite a discography it appears! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Humair

Any memory of why the 2 editions ( single or double cd )?
-
My fave is Horenstein on Chesky - 2 individual discs. Check the contents and see if one pleases you.

What else makes it different is Daniel Humair!

This is a wonderful collection of Karas's work. It contains the original version of the "Harry Lime Theme," along with other tracks from The Third Man. (There's even a really nice version of "Silent Night"!) If you like the movie, you'll love this disc.

Looking for recommendations for a single CD of Strauss waltzes. Or Strauss-period waltzes. Target audience: casual classical music listeners who actually would like to dance to some waltzes. Fun over erudition!
