  1. Past hour
  2. Oh, what a beautiful morning. Memphis the American Bully was mystified by a group of turkeys just over the road at the edge of the forest. He had never heard such things before! I’m starting off with Charlie Haden and the Liberation Music Orchestra live at the Montreal Jazz Festival. A great listen in every way!
  3. I have the repress of the Japanese set on gold disc. IMO it sounds better than the US cd set, and the Tower Records SACD set sounds a bit better than the Japanese. The edits really don't bother me.
  4. Today
  5. Jesper Lundgaard - Love & Peace: The Music of Horace Parlan (Storyville) Quintet album featuring Doug Raney and Bob Rockwell
  6. I was listening to Gene Ammons play Strange Fruit, is there anyone else who could make that work as an instrumental?
  7. Brownie's photos are here https://www.ayler.co.uk/html/judsonhall.html The photographer in the pictures is W Eugene Smith whose pictures from the session could include brownie but I don't think such pictures are known...
  8. IIRC Brownie posted those pics on this site a number of years back - just gone back to the thread you listed & the link to the pictures is there but no images appear unfortunately
  9. October 5 Clifton Anderson - 1957 Saw him with his uncle Sonny Rollins in Hamburg in the main hall of the Laeiszhalle on November 28, 2008
  10. Can't find a photo, guess I was wrong, but here are brownie's memories of an Albert Ayler recording session at Judson Hall https://www.organissimo.org/forum/topic/37678-brownie-on-ayler/
  11. He's performed with you on a multitude of sessions
  12. Upcoming Lester Young RSD (Black Friday, November) Birdland 51-52 recordings - looks like a single LP only & a paltry 8 tracks Wonder if the source material will be the 6 LP Boris Rose Ambrosia broadcast recordings (or their original acetates) - pity they didn't attempt a larger more complete set (something I recently recommended as a Mosaic box release) https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialRelease/19301
  13. Imho the 1965 Plugged Nickel recordings, while wonderful, are inferior in musical quality to the 1967 live recordings from Newport and Europe. My guess is their reputation is largely based on the fact that for a long time they (and Miles in Berlin) were the only widely circulating live recordings of this quintet.
  14. also Bell Sound Studios, Millbrook, NY (Timothy Leary), Judson Hall (Ayler SpiritsRejoice), A-1 Sound (Herb Abramson's Studio) see p61-62 (Ch 😎 of "Always in Trouble" plus p150-159 (section on Richard Alderson) "The studio where I recorded all the ESP stuff was an abandoned warehouse on West 65th Street, which had been condemned" The name was changed from RLA to Impact Studio when Harry Belafonte bought in

  16. Maybe I'm in the minority, but the 70+ mins single cd Columbia sampler they released of the Plugged Nickel, did it for me.
  17. Oh, right β€” those were Japanese only too.
  18. 1976 and American Columbia wasn't interested for a while. There was no Second Great Quintet yet.
  19. Currently available for pre-order through Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Complete-Plugged-Nickel-Live-1965/dp/B0FT7CWYF7/
  20. That's great, Stompin! While we're on the subject, can anyone recommend a wired earbud? At these prices, I might check out one of them too.
  21. Week 18 results Sask 20....Ottawa 13 The Redblacks' defense did pretty well, but their offense wasn't good enough to beat anybody. Katsantonis had three interceptions. With their eleventh loss, the Argos were eliminated from the playoffs. 22. Those might be THE most whack examples of cover art in the entire β€˜legit’ Miles catalog.
  23. Hearing that they were on sale I decided to try out some cheap earbuds - Soundcore P30i - which are similar to P20i but with noise cancelling. They arrived today and are not too bad in a pinch, like in a dentist office, riding a bike or some other public situation where it feels a bit clunky to wear bulky headphones or they might fall off, etc. The controls are fiddly, require some memorization (tap twice on the left ear, etc), and there is a tendency to activate every switch while trying to screw the earbud more tightly into my ear. The soundcore app is ok but they don't have a pc version so you have to use a phone or something, which means I have to keep putting on 3x cheaters to see anything - this is not an old person's world.
  24. 1976. Think about that.
