Malo “Evolution” Warner Bros. LP The third LP of Carlos’ broter Jorge Santana’s band. I stumbled across their first LP about 1973 and bought the first two, then this third one, then the others. I like this band!

Their website was maddening to search but I found a few gems. I hope they enjoy retirement. Small mail order businesses are closing a lot these days.

I had to play this one again. . . especially to hear the great tune "Everything Happens to Me" so well interpreted.

Since original copies of this private pressing LP fetch absurd sums, I'd love to see someone reissue it. I suppose it's not likely, however. . . . Oh well. At least it's available for streaming. Aside from ND's excellent playing, that rhythm section is something special.

Hey... Is there a book out there that you would consider the best biography of her? I was listening to a random cut of hers on KCSM. I know the general outlines of her life (sexual abuse, bisexuality?, obviously racism, etc.), but I'd like to get more reliable info. Thanks.

Someone posted that they were listening to the SF Jazz Collective recording from 2005 that had Bobby playing on it and for some reason, I googled Bobby just to refresh my memory of this era of his playing. I tripped over an interesting discussion on reddit: The interesting quote from his daughter was that "The song "Ummh" paid for his house in Montara. I live in his house to this day, raising my kids Ruby and my son Bobby". I did not know that Hutcherson's "Ummh" was some sort of moneymaker for him. Does anyone know how this one tune made him enough money to buy a house? Was it some sort of jukebox hit that I never knew about?
