Similar initial reaction here .. and the Youtube excerpt from the "Fallin Love" album at first made me think "So Pee Wee Marquette is singing now too??" For a slightly different and more grittier setting the below CD would merit some listening too: https://www.discogs.com/master/1041704-Little-Jimmy-ScottPaul-Gayten-Band-With-Special-Guest-Sam-Butera-Regal-Records-Live-In-New-Orleans Somehow I feel the somewhat more youthful Jimmy Scott doesn't sound quite so "female" there, but rather like a sort of grown-up Sugar Chile Robinson.

I was there about 4 years ago, and they absolutely had a gift shop. They have a special entrance on the side of the building for the store. -

The thing about Jimmy Scott that always catches me off guard when I hear him on the radio is that I almost always wonder what female singer is singing until I see his name pop up on the display. He sings in such a high register for a male singer it's uncanny how close he comes to the pitch of many female singers.

That was live when I went. Me & my wife got a picture with us crossing... unfortunately, I cannot find that picture anywhere. It was at a time when the world was between film developing and digital photography and I wonder if it got lost in that shuffle. FWIW, be careful if you try to get that picture. Cars fly up that road. -
in the age of AI, wikipedia is a bit underrated, but it gives a good summary: "After leaving the jazz world he worked as a messenger in New York and dabbled in jewelry; he sold brass objects at street fairs in the 1970s. After 1983, he began practicing again and playing live on street corners; shortly before he died he played with Clifford Jordan." he plays on Play What You Feel by Clifford Jordan, recorded in 1990... iirc, the beginning of the end was the loss of his cabaret card which gave him the choice between leaving music and leaving NY... but I forgot where I read that

First two discs with a bunch of Bud Freeman. Lucky to have his friendship in his last years.
