    Dave Mason RIP

I was a fan of Mason with Traffic and his "Alone Together" and "Live" albums got a lot of play. RIP Dave.
  3. Today
  4. On to another new arrival from dustygroove–“Louis Armstrong & His All Stars – In Concert Falkoner Centret January 1959” Steeplechase cd This is a great sounding mellow All-Stars recording.
  5. I’m starting the day off with Benny Goodman “Different Version Vols 1 & 2 – 40 Alternate Takes Of Recordings 1939 to 1940” Phontastic 2 cd set, disc 1. Got this from dustygroove.com really inexpensive, and the sound is excellent. This band was so very “on” at this time.
  6. George Crater – Out Of My Head
  7. Just noticed this at DG and CDJapan. Recorded live on August 12, 1973 at Henny Onstad Center for The Arts, which is in Norway. Tunes include "Open to Love" and "Alone, Again". Carol Goss, Paul's wife/companion, illustrated the front cover.

    Dave Mason RIP

    This song brings back memories:
  10. That's a great way of putting it. I passed on buying the Record Store Day EP dressed up as an LP, but definitely would be into a digital release. Things were rapidly evolving for Trane in 1960 and would love to hear the mostly audible evidence.
  11. Yesterday
  12. Hi all. I have been a Django fan since 1971 when I bought my first album here in New Zealand. It is that album that I am now trying to identify. I lent it to a friend many years ago and it was never returned, much to my dismay. However I had made a cassette tape of it which I have played sparingly over the years, then cleaned it up electronically and made a CD which has all the authenticity of a 78rpm record! The opening track is just on 3.00 min long, is upbeat, and starts with Stephane Grappelli playing four notes over Django's guitar, a motif which is repeated several times during the song. I've looked through the online discographies and listened to many tracks but still can't locate the song. The album does not appear in any listing I've seen either. It may have been a record company compilation? Can anyone help me here? Thank you, Mitchell

    Dave Mason RIP

Never heard "Utterly Simple" and "Hope I Never Find Me There". Are they worth listening to? Yeah, DM's songs were coming from a different place than SW's. Maybe that was what SW was mad about. Here's this guy who was playing gigs in his dad's jazz band at the age of twelve, then being compared to Ray Charles when was sixteen in the Spencer Davis Group. How are you going to put yourself above him? Weird about LSOHHB. What up wit dose Brits? I read DM's recent autobio "Only You Know and I Know", and I think that was the only gig he did with DATD. Lucky you!
  14. He wrote an awful book on Miles Davis' electric period, which was full of errors, such as wrong personnel, confusing Jumma Santos for Juma Sultan and descriptions/opinions that had no relation to reality. The large list of errors was compiled here: https://web.archive.org/web/20160427225113/http://www.miles-beyond.com/freemanerrors.htm
  15. I like that one a whole lot more. The other one was a dead link. It almost looked like it was trying to hijack the browser screen.
  16. Oh that's very odd, that wasn't the picture I posted! This would be the correct one, hopefully it will stay that way.
  17. I think he's also trying to project an image as an "outsider critic" of sorts. I don't often read Burning Ambulance. Sometimes I visit the site because people link to discussions of subjects that interest me. I've usually been somewhat disappointed by the reviews/discussions/whatever. Missed the Bird thing, which is just as well.
  18. Oh yes
  19. yep. I think that is his goal...
  20. I have two Ikea Expedit shelving units that I use for LPs. I wish they were still around. I know they offer the Kallax system now, but I'd rather match what I have. And, I didn't turn my 2x4 unit sideways like this... failure in 3, 2, 1...
