I NEVER have heard or read that mentioned, nor did a search some up with anything.

Thanks Kevin, that was more than I expected to learn, and all of it very interesting!

Confirming Danuary, medjuck for February, and Felsember (THERE we go!). Not confirming Jim until he says so.

Vinyl $34.99 + trendy snob appeal, CD $15.99. Me, I'm in for the CD's in all cases.

It was definitely discussed at the time, possibly here. I did not make it up, especially the part about the CDr replacement.

Lester Leaps In: Live At Birdland 1951 - 1952
Big Beat Steve replied to nighthawk68's topic in Discography
Also pointed out here, FWIW: In the "New Releases" section, though IMO it remains to be seen how much of it is actually "new". -
Lester Young Birdland 51-52 RSD Black Friday release
Big Beat Steve replied to romualdo's topic in New Releases
This very RSD release was evoked here yesterday as well: My impressions stated over there stand. Somehow the names, places and tracks sound oddly familiar. So what is REALLY new and unissued on this release in the end? -
I'm up for February if available.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
EKE BBB replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals

Affirmative. Dan's solid "real jazz" January BFT's are the antidote to the weirdness extreme creativity Jim brings to November BFT's and the ever-controversial tangents I bring to December BFT's.
-
Well I am sure Felser will ask for December but there's no way to artfully combine name and month so ...

What live music are you going to see tonight?

Last night, Shelley Carrol/Peter Rioux/Jonathan Fisher/Andrew Griffith at the Balcony Club. -
This morning before going to work, I played the last SACD from the recent japanese set. I loved it in terms of performance ans sound quality. Hopefully I will compare soon with the 1995 US set and then let you know of any material differences.
-
I never heard of nor experienced a bad disc in the set.
-
I remember that now. I never got the US box set because, IIRC, one of the CDs was defective on all copies and rather than repress it, Sony just sent people CDrs which I thought was pathetic. I assume this will be a new pressing, but will wait a bit to see for sure. I have the highlights, and an earlier single CD called Cookin' at the Plugged Nickel. I also downloaded the entire set for free from my Public Library, a service called Freegal. I believe it is technically legal, it is a subscription system they pay into. The labels are OK with it, especially Sony, although I doubt the Artists would be if they knew. I got a lot of out of print recordings this way, and also bought quite a few after as physical CDs because I liked them so much.

These threads tend to get long relatively quickly, but it's unclear how long I have to edit the original post. Sometimes I can fill them in, sometimes I can't. So, if you claim, I'll confirm, but I'm going to hold off from making an actual "calendar" post until we have a few confirmations, at least. I know Dan wants January, so we'll start there -- January is Danuary. Please request your month in this thread (rather than staking an outright claim). I'll do my level best to make sure everybody gets one of their top two choices, but the early bird gets the worm.
