  1. Past hour
  2. What a highly unpleasant person he was. Stellar record though, probably my favorite Getz. The combination with Chick works like magic. Captain Marvel is great as well though it’s not so consistently good as Sweet Rain.
  3. I always had the same thoughts: Washington DC, Sweden, UK, Toronto, Southern California… why not merging all of them in one international EKE society? Nowadays, communications across different states/countries/continents are easy… In any case, I perfectly understand the reasons behind this proposed decision at the DESS AGM… Sad but true…
  4. Today
  5. For sure
  6. OK - thanks! There are some videos on YouTube, too.
  7. Got it when I was 16 or so, a cutout. Only kinda got it then, time took care of that. Interesting now to hear the title track alongside some of Chick's SS material with Maupin sound like the goings on of the Lost Quintet - which at the time unless you had heard them live you HADN'T heard them! You HAVEN'T? Seriously don't that that was the intent, but history makes it's own jokes sometimes.
  8. I like that one a lot (which I'm sure is shocking, ha). If you haven't already, you might also check out "Playing in a Room with People", which is a Jansen Barbieri Karn live release, also featuring Steven Wilson, and also Theo Travis.
  9. Incredible drummer. Hard to imagine Miles’s music evolving from “Directions” to On the Corner without his presence, and his appearances on ECM as a sideman/leader were usually of extremely high quality. Strong agreement on Special Edition and Album Album being the best of that band’s work, though all 4 of the ECMs are worth hearing.
  10. Definitely was for me. I need to pull that one out and re-listen, it's been a long time. Looong album sides on that one, 29+ minutes each.
  11. Fond memories of Charles.
  12. Love that one. Have the Japanese LP pressing with that cover as well. Probably the first place I (and most people outside of Japan) heard Hideo Ichikawa.
  13. Special Edition and Album Album, in particular, are excellent records.
  14. Nice to have these 4 albums together in one set. Not the original artwork, obviously.
  15. Richard Barbieri/Steve Jansen - Very atmospheric, but with more energy than it seems after multiple listenings. This live album also includes Mick Karn on bass, and Steven Wilson on guitar
  16. Very sad, for sure. And one of my favorites. He performed in so many different settings and formats, he was hard to categorize. Which made him that much more special.
  17. Yesterday
  18. I enjoy all the Angles stuff, but this one is my favorite. I mean, the point of having a roof is so someone can blow it off, right?
  19. Gheorghe, Sorry to hear that about your wife, I know how much you loved her. My first wife died when we were both 52, after a two plus year long battle with cancer, and that too was too young. I was lucky to find love again--love is the one thing I've been lucky in when my thirties finally came around. My nightmare is sort of over. . .except now there is about four or five weeks of my wife's recuperating where I will be the nurse. I'm up for it.
  20. Would it not make sense for all these national “societies” to pool their resources under one roof - an international Ellington society?
  21. Oh I am so sorry to hear that. Believe me, I know what that means. I had enough personal nightmares this year. At least it made me productive and one of the 7 originals that will be on my next album is titled "Theme from a Nightmare". Believe me. I know those nightmares. The worst of them all was that my wife died so young just a month ago, 47 years old, heart attack, no chance to survive. At least she didn´t suffer. And this was just a heavy blow, but only one of many in this year, sad to say. Hope you better now, sincerly I hope that for you ! -
  22. Oh, what a loss. He was great !
