  2. I’d say Herbie would have been happy his music was interpreted this way.
  3. No idea how long this will be available (it aired Sept. 28, 2025), and Mulatu apparently just recommended the tracks (mostly Ethiopian jazz with some classic Miles Davis and Mary Lou Williams mixed in) and doesn't really chat or provide any commentary. Still, it is an interesting 1-hour mix that I enjoyed a lot, leading me to a few albums I wasn't aware of. https://www.nts.live/shows/guests/episodes/mulatu-astatke-28th-september-2025 Apparently Mulatu is wrapping up a farewell tour and had a couple of nights in London. I really hope one of these sets was recorded and will be broadcast later on the BBC, though that seems unlikely. I can certainly recommend his latest (final?) album Mulatu Plays Mulatu, available on various streaming sites and Bandcamp: https://mulatuastatke.bandcamp.com/album/mulatu-plays-mulatu

  5. Is it really true that no one has recorded anything for years? I know that’s not the case, but this thread does seem to have been somewhat forgotten. I don’t play music for a living and don't consider myself as a professional, but I’ve been fortunate enough to perform in some good bands. This time of year feels like the moment to share some of the Christmas music I recorded last year. I play the piano and did the arrangements, as part of a commission to record “background” jazz versions of Christmas tunes for streaming platforms.
  6. I have the OJC CD and the 1996 LP released by Analogue Productions, which sounds pretty great, so I have no need to pick up this new one. I agree that the music is very nice. I don't agree on getting by the cheesecake cover. I always got a chuckle from it.

  8. A bit warmer this morning. Welcome. Still and silent. . . the weekend mornings are quieter as the few neighbors sleep in. Starting off with the interesting box set released yesterday of two Bill Evans Trio (LaFaro and Motian edition) studio LPs released with a ton of alternates and outtakes. In excellent sound. “Haunted Heart: The Legendary Riverside Studio Recordings” Craft/Riverside 3 cd set, discs 1 and 2

  10. November 22 Ron McClure - 1941
  11. I saw him 8 months after "Amsterdam" at the Keystone Korner w/Hilton Ruiz, Eddie Moore, Herbie Lewis. And again in '81 with the same group except for Billy Higgins on drums. Unfortunately my memory of those shows is pretty vague

  16. John, I'm glad it hit the spot! Congratulations, and thanks for playing!
  17. I received my prize today, and am stunned by Russ's generosity. Four brand new music books, none of which I previously owned, all of which are of interest to me! Thanks so much, Russ! Here is my amazing haul: plus The Interactive Fender Bible, an amazing guitar resource!
