Thanks for steering my attention to this album, Mike! Didn´t know this artist, yet. Fascinating piano recital, Onaje Allan Gumbs is a highly interesting stylist, that´s for sure!

A cold rainy morning. Finally got pain management for Lucy handled and she’s back to sleep. Should be able to get a listen to a disc in! Starting off with Bob Dylan “Through the Open Window” disc 4 for the second time.

I have a CD that combines everything from 9/15/69 - 2 LPs plus one stray track IIRC. I bought it mostly because Grant Green's on it, but I enjoy everyone's playing.

I pick up a few Black Jazz titles every time they have one of those sales. Grabbed the Gene Russell albums this time.

What live music are you going to see tonight?
Pim replied to mikeweil's topic in Live Shows & Festivals
Great to see him still playing Kevin I saw Gary Bartz last night in Rotterdam. Though some of the songs were a bit to smooth to my tastes and I didn’t enjoy the female singer, I am happy I managed to see him. -
Balls on the B side probably 😆

I find Phil Woods' version of the tune to be quite a gasser: Regarding "Hopscotch," it looks like there are a few other more recent covers of the tune, but I'm not aware of Chambers recording it on his own.

I had Deuces Wild at one point, due to Robin Kenyatta and Rufus Harley's presence. Did I send that LP to you, Jim? I know I gave it to someone...

I just received a few LPs from Japan via JapanPost/USPS with no issues. Marked 'gift' and not expensive albums anyway, just took a little longer than DHL, which I used with this seller prior to the de minimis horseshit. No customs issue or tariffs present. I'm still wary, but it worked out. The seller suggested that JapanPost was the way to go in order to circumvent tariffs. I'll add that this was the first international order I'd done since August...

This happened to me with a recent order of WeJazz magazines from Finland. UPS delivered them without issue…and then sent me a bill two weeks later. The bill included a small tariff fee, in addition to a $14 “brokerage” fee…despite the fact that magazines should be exempt from these tariffs. Rather than have this bill go to collections, I went ahead and paid it. So…it really seems like there’s no consistency at all regarding what items the tariffs are being applied to.

Maybe some day there will be a similar listing for his Baritone dates. There will only be some overlap. Looking sharp there!

No, like this:

The working trio of Don Patterson, Billy James, and Sonny Stitt was a great combination indeed!
-
Eddie was big time into fourths.

OK, but what about FJD’s cousin, “Hopscotch”???!! — from Charlie ‘Charles’ Rouse’s Two Is One — credited to Joe Chambers. Did Chambers ever record the tune again? The Two is One version seems to be the first and only(?) version either Rouse or Chambers ever recorded. Did/does Chambers ever play it live? Or has he ever commented on it?
