  4. Thanks for posting - These are the types of cats I love to hear. I need to track it down hopefully Jim has some copies for sale.
  5. Today
  6. Not exactly a common date... The OG: 16 2/3 RPM!!!! So what was Hawes doing in the East?
  7. Searching online for a list of less well known jazz labels (for no particular reason at all, just something to browse over lunch, thought maybe I’d see a handful I’d forgotten, or never knew)… And as with most all of my jazz searches, the results led back to an Organissmo thread (this one). So bump!!
  8. I love that album. the Song of the World is wonderful, the lyrics really fit to me since in the warm season it happens often that after working all night long I spend the early morning at some lake and take a swim and feel about what that song expresses. And the whole album is great. Some boppish stuff, some ”free”, and some with a kind of backbeat. Very very nice !
  9. I just learned from a Jim Alfredson Facebbok post that George Howard passed away at the age of 100. Jim brought George into his home studio in 2017 to record "How It's Done", Howard's first recording - undertaken at the age of 92! It is a great CD and I'm glad Jim convinced George to do it. Lansing's City Pulse did a story on the session: https://lansingcitypulse.com/stories/oh-yeah-george,2650 Here's George's obit: https://www.legacy.com/us/obituaries/name/george-howard-obituary?id=60161751 I'm going to give this CD a spin again. discogs link: https://www.discogs.com/release/34602784-George-Howard-How-Its-Done
  10. Oh yes both great albums Felser with Alice, Journey is my favorite
  11. Absolutely terrific box set. Previously unreleased music from Zardi's Hollywood Night Club in 1955 and 56. Nice companion to previously issued 6-CD box set "The Complete Crazy Sunday at the Lighthouse 1953". The Los Angeles Jazz Institute (LAJI) over the years has issued many CDs of rare West Coast Jazz music as membership gifts.
  12. Agreed. The way they accent has some similarities. Hip. I don't own it, but that's why YouTube is my friend! 😁
  13. That prompted me to listen again to this odd session ("CF & HH with French Horns"): more enjoyable than I remembered, although HH doesn't get a lot of space. Made me also think of Hawes' "Gold Dust Twin", Sonny Clark (a "Bone & Bari" mix for him with Fuller), with whom Hawes may share a closer connection than with Phineas Newborn.
  14. Yeah, both that one and this one. And don't sleep on this amazing archival release from last year, with Pharoah and Archie Shepp:
  15. Alice Coltrane's albums are the only ones on which I like Sanders' playing, I must admit.
  16. Last price reduction. $90 (+ $8 shipping). I will keep this listed until Saturday, December 26. Here is a nice copy of Dylan's 1966 Live Recordings, a massive 36 CD box set of Dylan in his prime. Bob Dylan - The 1966 Live Recordings 36 CD, Columbia/Sony, 2016 Everything is in Near Mint (NM) condition -outer box, CDs, CD sleeves, booklet. Rated NM because this is open and I played a few CDs. It is in great shape. $90 (+ $8 media mail shipping) U.S. shipping only I can only ship on the weekend Payment by pay pal friends/family

  18. I got the kindle edition of vol 1 of Listening to Prestige. It's interesting. Merry Christmas!
  19. Though I do enjoy the 3 All Night Session albums, I get a slightly strange rhythm feeling to most of the tunes. So there are quite a few other Hampton Hawes albums I like better.
  20. I love that Pharoah album 😍
  21. What about that Curtis Fuller Prestige record with Hawes?
  22. Interesting. For the case of the Pablo Box, I guess that it might have been too difficult for Eric Miller to admit that his "European Tour" box contained some music that wasn't even recorded in Europe.
