  2. Planning on checking out Out of Sight tomorrow, and then Naked Lunch a few weeks after that. And should squeeze in Kajillionaire in between. Of the three, I've only seen Naked Lunch before.

  6. Some of the final work of the great James Moody. Featuring the fine piano work of Kenny Barron. James Moody “Moody 4B” IPO cd
  7. Very curious about the photos in the archive ... and whether any of it will be available online or is it all to be held in NYC to only be seen by those who show up during business hours with specific requests? The latter doesn't exactly embody "everyone to see his archives".
  8. Now, Something quite different! Gregory Groover, Jr. “Negro Spiritual Songbook, Vol. 2–The Message” Jazz Urbane cd

  10. My thoughts exactly. I almost stopped buying CDs from US sellers due to high shipping rates many years ago, and always paid duty or VAT. Same for CDs from UK and Switzerland. Only discs that I really want.
  11. A warmer morning. I couldn’t wait to turn the stereo on and listen. I love this time of the day, and the stereo has been sounding oh so good these mornings. Starting off with a disc I love: late Jobim, some of his final recordings. collecting his contributions to the Lumiar Records “Songbook” series of cds. Rich, beautiful recordings. Tom Jobim “Minha Alma Canta – My Soul Sings–the Great Brazilian Songbook”. I have become a huge fan of Jobim’s work, and his final works are full of a depth that always moves me.
  12. https://www.novantiqua.net/prodotto/Jubel-Schein-Bedeutung Very interesting new recording, questioning the obsession with speed in most modern performances. One has to give up any preconceptions while listening. Losito definitely has the means to project the melodic and harmonic flow at these rather slow tempi, and is living proof you can achieve a beautiful tone on a violin with minimal use of vibrato. My only complaint regards the harpsichord used, a copy of a 1769 Taskin model, something Bach never had used or even heard. Although it has a beautiful elegant sound, it lacks the gravity and fullness Thuringian and Saxonian instruments had.
  13. Just a brief look at the reverse side of this coin that will might be "food for thought" for EU forum members: Now that there is the EU-USA customs duties agreement whereby EU exports to the USA will be subject to 15% customs duties for the time being (until further notice, or should I say "until further whims"? ) but USA exports to EU countries are for the most part at 0 (zero)% duties, I for one wouldn't hold my breath that we as private buyers will now be able receive any shipments of records, CDs or similar all duty-free to our doorsteps. It just does not seem likely, given the general regulatory climate. Not to mention that duty-exemption thresholds applicable until now have been ridiculously low for some time, and prohibitive mailing rates by US shippers have probably killed most transactions anyway.
  14. David Liebman Plays Coltrane & Shorter. Aebersold Vol. 81 Play-A-Long. Jamey Aebersold Jazz 635621600225 [s.d.]
  15. September 4 Dave Liebman - 1946
  16. Each of the 4 shows in this set include a version of Machine Gun. All amazing, and all different from each other. This is an essential box.
  17. Philology Vol 9 says " possibly July '50 Bernie Leighton p., Ray Brown b., Buddy Rich dr." Of course perhaps you heard a a different recording, but Losin (whom I trust a lot) doesn't list any recording of the song by that lineup.
  18. Fairly recent acquisition, repeat listening.
  19. Yesterday
  20. Marc Copland with Gary Peacock & Paul Motian “Voices - New York Trio Recordings Vol. 2” Pirouet cd These New York Trio Recordings can rightly be compared to the Keith Jarrett Trio recordings, but have their own special sauce–I really like those I have. And Gary Peacock! He always just commands my attention.
