  3. I like OP, but own the majority of this on old Verve CD's, and can't justify the cost of the upgrade (same with their many BN boxes of recent years - I prefer BN's with original artwork and track listings anyways, better to recreate the magic of the time and place). But I'm sure it's a nice set.
  4. Blue Lake Public Radio’s jazz director Lazaro Vega has a few thoughts to share on recent programming, Jazz Appreciation Month, International Jazz Day, his birthday and “Sweet Georgia Brown.” You can read and respond to those musings here: https://www.bluelakeradio.org/2026-05-12/international-jazz-day-my-birthday-jazz-from-blue-lake
  5. As far as Emergency, my longstanding understanding is that the recording was botched, no remastering is going to make it sound good. Yet it remains essential listening despite the sonic flaws (and Tony's "singing").
  6. Al Cohn plays wonderfully here. The trumpet solos and arrangements are also very good.

  8. Mingus was Bremen 64/75 (Sunnyside 2CD), not Miles (or Monk).
  9. just picked up a nice mono copy of that LP. Strong date.
  10. I was going by what the note on the inner sleeve says. So apparently that's not accurate either? Not sure what happened with this new release, but it's clearly not right--track two starts in mid-performance and only runs for about 1:30 or so, though the listing on the CD gives the same running time as the one you've posted.
  11. It appears this was reissued as A Piece of Jazz History on CD and on streaming sites, which may be easier to access. Original cover is much better, however...
  12. I subscribe to MHZ and recently watched both seasons of The Fallen. Big Sofia Helin fan. I’m now watching a Danish series, The Killing (season 1).
  13. Ben Wendel: Barcode
  14. Yes, phenomenal stuff. Only passing this on because it's a duplicate.
  15. Not really an OP fan, and I prefer his trios with Barney Kessel and Herb Ellis. Hoping for a set with the trio with Ellis someday.
