Iverson's list has some gems but good lord it's maddening to read his articles. Anyway, he was spot on with the selection of Ellington's Piano Reflections and many others. The article's selections and the ones listed here will be fun to explore.

I, too, consider this one of Coleman's masterpieces. Around 1978 to 1979 was Coleman's peak period, and this rhythm section was a perfect fit for him (personally, I preferred Hilton Ruiz over Harold Mabern, whom he often worked with, as I found Ruiz more modern). However, I think this unit sounds better live, so I prefer the live recording from Ronnie Scott's in London. It's a shame it's not available on CD or for digital download.

While probably best known for his contributions to Maiden Voyage, Miles Davis records circa 1964, and the Eastern Rebellion collective, this record made for Timeless shows off Coleman's command of the horn in a way that his sideman appearances don't always do. What do you think?

one of the more surprising things in Iverson's fine post is the claim that Masabumi Kikuchi was only really good after 2000... so much of his work in the 90s is magnificient imho... but there's also awesome stuff from the 60s, especially the 70s, and the 80s... such as this album here

I have a copy where someone combined the American 1980s reissue with the beautiful original French cover Btw, regarding Parallel a Stitt, that one looks similar on paper but in fact the large band is only on a few tracks and most of it is a small group with Don Patterson... (Even though it's not their finest collaboration)

I have a couple albums by The 3 Sounds -- but I've never heard that one. I will check it out!

Just listening to Sam the Man on some cuts from Cootie Williams' band. Didn't realize he had such an extensive jazz and R&B background before going to Hollywood.
