  2. Wayne Escoffery “Like Minds” Smoke Sessions cd
  3. Being up at the beach now, I see tons of scooter riders. I cringe when I see so many of them weaving around cars in traffic. I guess they figure that because they're on a little scooter, their bodies are somehow impervious to car metal. I still haven't gotten the itch to ride again. These days, I get my 2-wheeled excitement from my Magnum Cruiser ebike. I've had a couple of close calls on that too. People don't like to give bicycle riders the 3 foot buffer that they're supposed to. I had one big truck's mirror come very close to my head once. Scared the heck out of me.
  4. These are from years back. Mirrors and battery cover are spiffier now. Tool bag is off the handlebar support and down behind the front wheel.
  5. The mug shots, are....uncomfortable.... Playing now, my own double-feature: and Thank you, John!
  6. Today
  7. Thanks, didn't know there was more material! Wow, thanks for hipping me to this, I'm getting it, liked Dead Letter Office already.
  8. Ugly cover, good disc ... (most of it)
  9. Let's see some photos of it!
  10. Deliciously cool this morning! And quiet and still. Starting off with another disc from the “Enjoying the Ride” Grateful Dead box set released at the end of May. Greek Theatre, University of California, Berkeley, CA (7/13/84), disc 1 320×214 30.4 KB But not part of the "Private Collection."
  11. oh, first I want all my band members feel good and he is the youngest and still student at the famous Viennese University MUK, the best place for studying jazz in my country. Many students from all the world come to Viena to study here because it´s so good. He is so good he gets such a lot of calls. I was the first to give him a job. And it´s not for just one tune: He made copies of ALL MY compositions on our last album last year ("Waltz For Serena") and from 3 new tunes we play currently and will be on the album we gonna record on october 4th/5th, plus the three compositions we still hadn´t performed. AND: He transcribes it for C, Eb, and Bb instruments. So that´s quite a JOB and I think 200 Euro this time is okay for me and he was very very glad to hear that I pay him. And last but not least: He comes to my place, we check the tunes together. We did it in the past and I didn´t pay him, but now I think he must get some money.
  12. My Prez discography ("Lestorian Notes" by Piet Koster and Harm Mobach, published in 1998, so I don't know if this one or the one by Jan Evensmo is more up to date) lists the session of 25 April 1952 like this: I then tried to narrow down the recordings to the line-up given by Feather, and according to the musician index Earl Knight only appeared once with Pres - on the session hereafter of 4 August 1951: But Earl Knight and Lee Abrams together at one and the same session apparently never happened - at least not on any known recordings. So ...? Like Niko said, the 25 April 1952 date is the most likely candidate, but the line-up announced by Feather then would be incorrect. If all this is what you already arrived at as well, Medjuck, then sorry - but I tried.
  13. Norgran Records MG N -1029 (Japan 1992) - " Interpretations By Stan The Stan Getz Quintet # 3 " - rec. 1953
  14. Mysterious! Looking at the discography (Evensmo), it seems that Destination Moon is the track that wasn't recorded often... and which points to 25 April 1952 where the other tracks were recorded as well. For this, the Evensmo-lineup is what you have but with Wynton Kelly, Aaron Bell and Jo Jones sitting in for Abrams on some tracks... Now it seems unlikely to me that this Jazz Club USA epsiode was forgotten in all the discographies... And even if the tracks came from different nights with different lineups, that wouldn't make Feather's announcement correct... So my tentative conclusion is 25 April 1952 and Feather was announcing a lineup he'd maybe received in advance.... Also possible that Feather is right about the lineup and discographies are wrong. The first step would be to compare the music from 25 April to the radio show...
  15. Norgran Records MG N-1065 (Japan 1993) - An Evening Of Jazz (Various Groups) - rec 1949
  16. August 23 Bobby Watson - 1953
  17. I posted this to a jazz research list serve and got no response. Maybe someone here knows. On a Jazz Club USA broadcast from (I believe) 1952 devoted to Arnett Cobb and Lester Young, Leonard Feather announces that Prez was recorded at Birdland and that his band consists of Jesse Drake, Earl Knight, Lee Abrams and Gene Ramey. However though all these players were in the band around the same period , neither of the 2 Prez discographies I own show them all in the band at the same time. The numbers played on the broadcast are standard for Prez at that time: "Neenah", "Ghost of a Chance", "Lester Leaps in" and "Destination Moon". Does anyone know when this performance took place and who the players were? (It is possible that the Jazz Club USA broadcast used numbers from more than one night, with different members of the band on separate nights.)
  18. Right, this is a reissue of a Music Masters cd.
  19. Got mine today. Very excited to see 2 photos and one track (Doktor Pitt) from April 12, 1981 at the Great American Music Hall in SF. I was there👍
  20. Those guys have a good show. The problem for me is that they’re very vinyl-focused and I don’t buy vinyl any more.
