  2. On my album cover it is written that it is a female singer Chubby Newsome, and that she sounds quite under the weather on it, because she might have had a few.... Anyway, that vocal on Embraceable You sounds horrible to me. It´s only rescued by Bird, Bud and Fats, who has a beautiful sound on it, and it´s a rare item where he plays a ballad.
  3. I have that one album on BN, the only one on which Dannie Richmond is a drummer for a BN session. And it is possible he is a sideman on another, maybe on one of those early Lee Morgans or Hank Mobleys.
  4. Strange.... I know "I Told You So" as my favourite George Cables Composition.....😄 I love it, so great music, I like this period most, and the first year of his comeback, that´s the strongest music ! Usually I am not a fan of West Coast or in that case West Coast revival, but this one I always did like, maybe because it has a more modern sound with Harvey Mason, Bob James and Ron Carter. It´s a thing that I really like and spin. And maybe it´s just a generation thing, that the original Cool Jazz from the West Coast is not my thing. This one is much more powerful, it has the right drive that makes me happy. And anyway, I like those Westcoasters Baker, Mulligan Art Pepper mostly from the later years, the 70´s and 80s. Sounds much more interesting to me.

  6. Lucio Capede and Marc Baron - My Trust In You Marc Baron has been a good recent find. From the more creative end of electro acoustic improv.
  7. Today
  8. Indeed. Noted this in the reveal post.
  9. I visited the Abbey Road studios when a friend was recording a soundtrack there. He was in a modern studio but took me to see the studio the Beatles used. (Studio 2?) They had kept it the same as it had been in 1969 so they had some sense of history. I don't think there was a gift shop at the time.

  12. Many thanks to everyone who weighed in. In the end, price made a decision for me. I managed to find a copy of the Big Band Decca set for $19 a disc but also from a seller in Italy, which is where I live and often help me pull the trigger on bigger purchases. Looking forward to listen in tandem with the 2020 Ricky Riccardi book :-).
  13. John Mehegan “Reflections” Savoy/Denon cd Mehegan with very sympathetic drumming by Kenny Clarke. 300×297 8.14 KB
  14. There is a statement on Uehlinger's AlAy website regarding the Westbrook release (with my emphasis): In Memory of Mike Westbrook Mike Westbrook contacted me in April/May 2025, when I was still Hat Hut Records owner and recommended that I issue his piano blues solo recording. After listening to the music, I agreed. At the end of May, I sold the name of Hat Hut Records and its contents of ezz-thetics productions. The recordings then passed to the new owners of Hat Hut Records, who had no interest in releasing them. Since I had promised Mike Westbrook a CD release, I began working on the release despite a non-compete agreement. The contact with Mike was very intense in the following weeks to achieve his wish that the CD be released before his 90th birthday in March 2026. I succeeded. He received the CD after mid-February 2026. Mike was very happy and very grateful. Mike’s eMail on February 23, 2026: The CDs have arrived! ‍Now the music is able to speak for itself. Thanks for your support and commitment in making it happen. Unfortunately, his illness caught up with him and led to his recent death on April 11, 2026. The Piano In The Room And The Blues has now become a memorial edition. – Werner X. Uehlinger, curator for AlAy Ltd. You have to admire the unwavering single-mindedness, all obstacles - such as agreed non-compete - being brushed aside in pursue of a goal.
  15. Over the last two days:
  16. 'Bout time! I couldn't believe their attitude when I was there. The person "guarding" the door back then was pretty adamant that they were only a recording studio. The attitude gave the impression that they wished that Abbey Road wasn't even recorded there... as if they would have still been in business if they hadn't done it.
  17. On to another Byrd on Savoy, this with John Jenkins and Curtis Fuller, Tommy Flanagan, Doug Watkins and Art Taylor Donald Byrd “Jazz Eyes”
