  3. Today
  4. Probably one for the Brits more than the rest of the forum, but sad news that Rob Grant, the "Grant" of "Grant Naylor" the writing team behind the original series of Red Dwarf, died suddenly and apparently unexpectedly yesterday. For people of my age group, those first four or so episodes of Red Dwarf were pretty much formative. So this is sad news indeed. RIP.
  5. I've listened to a few more of them this evening. I think after the second record most of them left so it wasn't really the same mix. There's a really sharp decline. Reeeaaally sharp. Now listening to this one: Obviously not the world's greatest record either. But not terrible. I find it hard to put myself in the mindset of Bob Thiele as he set about persuading a dying Louis Armstrong that he needed to record a version of "The Creator Has A Master Plan".
  6. yeah, those three are very good. I don't know this one.
  7. The Last Poets - Chastisement I hadn't really listened to the Last Poets before other than their first two records and Hustlers Convention. This is surprisingly terrible.
  8. Some very interesting musicians born on this day! Also, pianist Chris Anderson (1926-2008), bassist Hilliard Greene (b. 1958), and bari saxophonist Claire Daly (19580-2024).
  9. Pim mentioned driving home from Tilburg in another thread today... Did that four times this week and now it's enough... It's not the prettiest of cities, buildings are strangely small - as seen in the picture- and the edges are still rough and there's nothing glorious about that... But the city does have one of the best bands playing South African Jazz in the Low countries, the various incarnations of Eric van der Westen's quintet...
  10. Thank you so much. But "proud" ? Most of the time I already think about what I we might do next. Time flies, you gotta go further and further, not to stand still. With the singer, well I didn´t want to make only instrumental records, and by the way, a stunning young lady singing with passion..... well I get older. Played all them ballads once without really knowing about the lyrics. As "older" I get, as more I want to get INSIDE the song. ( "older" from my birthdate, not from my mental and physical condition 😄 ) Anyway, it was a nice thing and ......pround.....well I think it´s a better and more personal statement than the album before "Waltz for Serena", which was more like a straight anhead album. Just today I had to do another little promotion clip at the label´s studio and signed for more collaboration..... And I think every musician will tell you that after recording something he thinks what he could have done better......

  14. A good show from Winterland right after the Dead returned from their Egypt shows. If I have one complaint it may be. . . too much slide guitar here and there. Grateful Dead “Road Trips Vol.1 Number 4–From Egypt with Love” disc 1
  15. You bet, appreciate you checking it out. The Arno Marsh at the very bottom is from 1983, shortly after I started here at Blue Lake. It's a live hit from a club in Grand Rapids called "Pier 28" and was one hour out of entire weekend that Arno had at the club, including a 3 or 4 tenor melee to end it all. Randy plays drums, the wonderful soul brother Eddie Russ is on piano and the bassist is Jeff Beavan, a Grand Rapids guy. Check out Arno playing like 5 choruses on "Body and Soul." Also down there is the Blue Lake Faculty at The White Sands which included trumpeter Louis Smith. His feature on "Oleo" opens the second hour of that, I believe. The Louis Bellson Explosion and Blue Lake Monster with Marcus Belgrave are also highlight the archive.
  16. My wife and I sat next to him for that VVC show. A true gentleman as well as, obviously, a wizard.
  17. Thanks for this. I believe the one at the very bottom ... Randy Marsh's Pop, Arno Marsh, is with Organissimo. A great set that I snagged in the past. actually I see the Organissimo with Arno Marsh higher up .. so this is more Arno? That should be great.
