  1. Past hour
  2. Just finished it. Very enjoyable. Thoreau once said "in wildness is the preservation of the world" or something like that. With Sun Ra: in weirdness is the preservation of the cosmos. In a world that is pressing for sameness and homogeneity, this strangeness is salvation.
  3. When you were on a 28.8 dial-up modem, you rarely read every post to these newsgroups. You had to pick and choose. You could only tie up you landline for so long.
  4. There seems to be a lot of other junk in that group.
  5. Yes, American based in the Netherlands... I've read that comparison often but I wouldn't know of an interview where he says this himself.... Btw Lewis Porter has an interesting pair of posts on why Brubeck has not been much of an influence on other pianist https://lewisporter.substack.com/t/brubeckdave
  6. This was recently reissued as a OJC. Wonder if they got the rights from Craft.
  7. I say it again, Pramsohler is the greatest. I will buy all of his CDs. Audax is his label, btw.
  8. That's interesting. The dutch player? Did he say this somewhere? I sort of missed Clusone at the time, and I have never really got to grips with his music as a result, although I always enjoyed their records.
  9. My feeling is the TPs should stick to instrumental jazz.
  10. I love this one! Carmelo Garcia and Carlos Vidal are great.
  11. Today
  12. “A Portrait of Duke” Frank Roberscheuten, a Dutch recording of great Ellington tunes on Arbor cd
  13. This looks like another re-re-rerecyled reissue for incurable upgraders. I'm extremely selective about what Sinatra records I feel I need in my record collection anyway, so I for one will stick with my reissue by Dutch Capitol (Vol. 4 in the "The Frank Sinatra Story" LP series).
  14. Listening again to the instrumental remixes of the first two LP sides of Yes “Tales from Topographic Oceans” in the 12-cd 2 LP Super Deluxe Edition.
  15. Michael Moore was the first name that came to my mind
  16. I wouldn't say Immanuel Wilkins "claims primary inspiration" from Desmond--I'd be very surprised if he did--but I hear strong elements of his sound at time in Wilkin's own sound. I love them both.
  17. A master pianist with a wonderful big band. Nice way to start off what should be a cooler cloudy day. Adullah Ibrahim and WDR Big Band Cologne “Bombella (Gold Train-South Africa)” Sunnyside cd
  18. bertrand

    Jackie McLean

Norman Connors should be listed as Etc. Since he allegedly ruined the date.
  19. Are there any reed players who claim primary inspiration or some other form of artistic descent from Paul Desmond? I'm always struck by how much I love his playing every time I listen to his records.
  20. February 21 Akira Sakata - 1945 Saw him with the Yosuke Yamashita Trio in Göttingen June 21, 1975
  21. Holy Ghost

    Jackie McLean

Great interviews and footage I've never seen before. Thanks for RE-posting.
  22. HA! I have no idea. I only recently got turned on to Swervedriver, and don't know that much about them. I listened to disk 2 this afternoon! Been on a major Jansch/Pentangle binge lately. Such a unique band!
