No, that's Columbia's studio at 30th St in Manhattan ("the Church"). Can't remember whether it was at this studio that they raised the control booth some time in the 1950s, but this looks like it. F Not that I can see, sorry. This book is more focused on photography as art than as historical record, though. Many images are pretty dark and it's difficult to identify the subjects. F

Had trouble sleeping so I woke up and took care of a task, let Memphis outside for “business” and now am warming up with a cup of organic Mexican coffee. It’s COLD. Which felt nice. Starting off with the new Charles Lloyd, “Figure in Blue” on Blue Note, 2 cd set, disc 1 I’m not a HUGE Lloyd fan, I liked him up til ECM, not much of a fan of his ECM work or his work with the Marvels or others on Blue Note but liked his last one and this one is also very nice. A trio with piano and guitar. 230×230 8.44 KB

This price difference betwen hardback and paperback versions seems to be an increasing trend these days, at least in the "special interest" non-fiction sector. Is there ANYTHING to warrant such differences with the hardback version? Particularly since it is not likely this can be recouped anywhere once these books hit the secondhand market. And production costs cannot really be THAT different.

Just read about this yesterday, so young. RIP.

Love the album sleeve alone! Speaking of sleeves, MUCH prefer the King over the RVG cover, but own both editions:

A lot of those Black Jazz albums are great. I first discovered that label because of the Doug Carn albums. I was very happy when they were reissued a few years ago and grabbed quite a few, including that one.

Good work! I would have never guessed it in a million years.

I sleuthed #4 with some luck from above hints. I'd never have guessed it, my only thought was "on Black Saint". Not really "big name" players. Track B3 here for the impatient, youtube here.

Not his most famous video but this got me to get that first CD. Love this kind of production for R&B. He always had other contemporary artists and musicians giving him props. Hate this happened. Way too young. RIP
